Where is the line between Camper and Motor Home?

I recently sold my 84 Rockwood Class C, 28 Foot.

I recently bought an 88 Fleetwood Southwind Class A, 34 Foot.

The Travel Trailer, the pop-ups, that Class C were all campers in my mind.

That Southwind is something more than a camper in my mind. I think it is a Motor Home...

I have been to many RV shows and to the homes of friends, and many motor homes on the road have more comforts, more art work, and more luxury than my house.

Where do you draw the line?

A 45 ft DP loaded is still a camper in my mind but anything with an engine, bed and bathroom is a Motor Home to me. ;-)

My 19' Falcon 190 isn't a motor home. My 40' Ultimate Freedom is! But legally, in Washington State, my camper van meets the definition of a motorhome! Go figure...

So, even though you could say all motorhomes are, in essence, campers, definitely not all campers are motorhomes.

To me, if it's a DP Class A, then it's a motorhome. You can draw the line wherever you want.

Camper=mounts in the bed of a pickup truck. Also known as a truck camper
TT= a pull behind recreational vehicle
Fifth wheel= a recreational vehicle with wheels that is hitched to a mount in the bed of a truck
Motor Home= any self contained/self driven recreational vehicle.
All are RV's

Just like one industry leader describes; a motorhome is any Class A, B, or C, motorized RV.
The Difference Between Class A, Class B, and Class C Motorhomes - Newmar

A camper is any vehicle with which a person (also called a camper) may camp in.

So, is a 45' Diesel Pusher with 4 slides, SAT TV, generator, self-leveling, powered awning, remote system monitoring...etc. a camper? I think so

Safe travels

As a kid, anything that rolled on wheels you could sleep in was a camper...that included my RadioFlyer with a sawhorse in it & a blanket thrown over the top. So I guess by my way of thinking, a motorhome IS a camper...just one with a motor in it.

The license plate on the motor home says "Camper", so it must be true...

I pondered this for a while and decided it just doesn't matter.

I have a 19' '95 Roadtrek on a Dodge B350 chassis. My Secretary of State licensed it as a Dodge Van. I didn't complain because it cheaper than a motorhome.

IMO a camper is anything with wheels you camp in.

There are sub classes of campers that include pop ups, TT, 5er, tent trailers, slide ins, A, C, B, B+, super C, probably some hybrids (there was a tent that fit in the back of a truck at Cabelas). But a tent is still a tent, even though you camp in it.

Now the folks who camp in all of the above domiciles are all 'Campers', all of whom I hope are enjoying the camping where ever they are.

In my opinion, you can call it what ever you want as long as it gets you away from home and able to enjoy the great sites to be seen across the country!
