Well, hey there stranger, haven't heard from you in awhile.
Looking for people who travel with one well installed.....
However, I did just find that a new rooftop is not as badly priced as I assumed they would be. If it comes down to that.....

We got the idea from RV shows... A lot of smaller TTs do this. In fact, it was the same exact AC unit we seen in new TTs.
On really hot days, I propped the exterior door open so the AC exhaust was unimpeded..
It worked great for the size of our 21 ft Toyhouse (thats what we called it). Probably need to go with a 10k BTU unit for anything larger..

Traveled with one for years in my old 60s era TT. Welded a support for it and screwed the rest in. Never had an issue with it! It was nice having a little AC in the old girl. She was only 16ft though so we didn't need a very big one.

Did it on my KIT, had a custom steel bracket made to replace a small window on the rear that allowed me to permanently bolt and seal one in place.

No, but parked several spaces down from me is a converted MCI bus that I am sure uses a pellet stove for heat, and they have been here all winter in Breckenridge Colorado.
