Get new plug and put tape on it.
As you present plug may have some damage to it.

NOTE: on the brass thing with the petcock.

Camping world carries two different models of this

One the "petcock" is identical to a radiator petcock, in fact that is what it is.

The other one has a much larger "Throat" a tube nearly the full half inch (perhaps 3/8) with what looks to be a stainless steel pin through it so you can open and close.

THIS is the one to get.

So i pulled the plug and drained the hot water heater. Then i opened the two waterline drains by the hotwater heater. And opened the drain for the fresh tank. Its supposed to drop to 23*f tonight and i cant winterize till sunday. My hotwater heater is a suburban........... which im pretty sure means i need to have an anode rod.

The drain plug and anode come as one piece.
Water Heater Anode Rod, Suburban - $8.99

I'm sure Camping World will have them too. Take the old plug to compare. Camping World Website has been down for 2 days, I think they're tied into www.healthcare.gov !

To properly fix this you will need a 1/2 x 14 npt pipe tap as all water heater use npt fittings.... Can find one for around 35.00 hope this helps!!!
