Joe "BARTH" Shaffer
August 28, 2010
We recently received word that Joe passed away and want to extend our sincerest notes of sympathy to his wife, Joan, and their family.

The family at iRV2 enjoyed our years of commaraderie with Joe and appreciated his wisdom and experiences shared on the forums.

Joe and Joan were active members of the Appalachian Campers and attended many of its campouts. They were also regular attendees at our National Rallies.

We attended at least 4 rallies with Joe and Joan and always enjoyed being in their company. They were super nice people and Joe really loved those pork chop sandwiches from Snappy Lunch in Mt. Airy. He will greatly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joan and his family.

We're sorry to hear about Joe. We remember him and his dune buggy from a rally at Meadows of Dan, VA.

Joe was indeed a great guy and interesting to talk with. He knew a lot about most any older car you mentioned. RIP my friend, it was good knowing you

I heard Joe had died last Friday when I went to where I have my motor home parked for the summer. We spend most weekends there. I had planned to post to iRV2 on Sunday but when I returned home I had a personal note from Hitchhiker informing me of Joe's (Barth) passing.

Joe and Joan were planning on attending a FMCA rally next weekend at this campground (Sharp's) and I had planned to go up on Thursday and spend the weekend with the FMCA rally group. My buddy owns the campground and someone from the rally had called him and told him to tell me Joe had died. Joe lived about 40 miles south of me. I missed him at the same FMCA Allegheny Mountain Chapter rally in May when we had other commitments. I really liked Joe and was shocked on Friday to here the bad news. I still can't believe it. I had next weekend marked on my calender since May.

Last I saw him was a couple years ago at the Mayberry iRV2 Fall rally in NC. We parked next to each other and had a nice long sociable weekend.

Rest in peace Joe.
