We just returned from a week in the Rockwood community campground. Surprisingly, the weather was very hot and humid and very much like that we left in the South, although it was dry in the Guelph/Rockwood region. We had a great time in the St. Jacobs market and bought fresh cherries and various veggies; also bought some of the best steak I've ever eaten. We cooked it on the grill at the park. Had a great time visiting friends in the Guelph area, but the last night in the park was spoiled by a group of drunks directly across from our camp site. They were going strong at 2 AM. We left Saturday morning so someone else had the joy of their presence the next night. Other than that, we had a great time.
By the way, even with the heat and humidity the Rockwood park was nearly full and many campers were long-timers who were camping for a month or two. Some had kids; others were silver-haired like me. Everyone was enjoying the great out-of-doors.

Rockwood is a village about 6 miles east of Guelph, Ontario on highway 7. It has a park on the river and many people camp there. Lots of folks from Toronto spend a month or more in Rockwood. The park is part of a larger group of locally owned conservation parks (Grand River Conservation Areas) such as Guelph Lake. They are not widely publicized but are great places to visit.

Doggievet:
Glad you enjoyed your stay in our little corner of the world! Unfortunatly, we get Yahoos here just like everywhere else, but this type of behavior is way more prevalent on the week-ends. You're right, our campgrounds tend to get very busy in the summer months, as bad as Arizona in winter!!!
As to the heat, your friends likely told you that this is the hottest, driest summer in history,(Recorded that is), so you sure picked a good one!
I hope your weather Gods in Ga reciprocate for us next winter and give us nothing but mid-70's in the Albany area so we can golf ourselves silly. Cheers:
Bob

I just want to jump on and apologize for the "drunks" that ruined your last night up here. We're from Fergus just 12km north of where you were and as Bob has explained we get some yahoos. This summer has been incredibly hot for more consecutive days than I can ever remember happening before.

Thanks, I've camped at Rockwood on 4 previous occasions and this is the first time we've encountered the problem. I've visited Fergus on several occasions and most of the small towns near Guelph. I really like the area. I also love Algonquin Park and have visited it off and on since the early 70s - tent camping and finally a motorhome. Enjoy some of that peaches and cream sweet corn for me. It's really tasty when freshly picked, boiled, and served with real butter and some salt. Yummy!
