It's been less than a decade, since we abandoned our 1973 Travelaire TT in favour of a rig, a '99 Winnebago Adventurer, that might more favourably sustain us on an extended out-west travelling experience.

In 2003, we crossed all of Canada, from the Pacific Rim, to St. John's, Nf. One of the very best trips EVER!!

So . . utilizing our rig for the first time for it's intended purpose . . . We'd heard all the urban legends about how "When the Fred Meyer Parking lot is full of RVs . . . Spring has arrived!"

But upon arrival in Anchorage, Alaska; instead of being met with the legendary expected hospitable "RVers Welcome" signs; the entire community of Anchorage and Fairbanks is now blanketed with the most proliferous anti-RVer "No RV Overnight Parking" "Get outta Town as as soon possible" kind of signs . . posted by Fred Meyer, Wal-Mart, et al; in virtualy each and every such entity throughout all of Alaska.

Should I ignore this? No, it's another case of painting big territory no, over ONE detail.

That's the point. To not go somewhere over a continental debate issue. Big Box store parking lots vs. private campgrounds. That's going on everywhere.

Well, here's something new for the discussion from an Australian member of another forum, who happens to be a friend of mine.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Interesting subject, we're free campers, never book ahead as we never stay in caravan parks. Mid afternoon when we're travelling we look for likely
places to camp for the night, creeks, gravel pits, national parks
(pensioners are free) or any of the free sites listed in books we have. Also
have help from the large list submitted by members of the "Campervan and
Motorhome Club of Australia" which I print out before we leave home.
A growing trend here, many small towns offer free power and hot showers to
travellers to bring some money into local business's.
When we set off we have a destination in mind but the route is very flexible
as is the number of kilometres we do each day.

"NOT ALL WHO WANDER ARE LOST"
p d </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Think positive. Contribute to the local enconomy. We will continue to be welcome.
