We're having a drama here. One of our towns is high above the water, sitting on clay and nature is being itself, sometimes destructive.

The town is Daniel's Harbour and it's on the only road up the Northern Peninsula

CBC update April 19, 2007

Looking at what's fallen:

It's probably closer now, these pictures were taken April 18, 2007 by a town resident.

Earlier radio stories were saying that 3, maybe 4 more houses are likely to go over the ridge.

A second temporary route connecting Daniel's Harbour to the rest of the Peninsula is under construction. There is a lot of freight traffic each day. Residents, who have lost there homes are now staying in motels. Government help is in process, but as we know from the loss of homes in the September, 2005 flood in Stephenville, the process takes months.

The pictures are also at my album:

But grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr that this site won't take links from my album now. I thought it had before.

If you click on the google link, change it to hybrid, then keep double clicking to zoom in, you will see two things.

1) a large fjord like pond not too far away. These fjord like ponds are very very deep.

2) a small pond very close to the town.

There must be underground water drainage paths that have changed. Of course, when clay is wet it can be quite liquid. Both of these are mentioned in other online reports from April 20, 2007.
