We are hoping to head to Scottsdale area early Jan to watch the Barrett-Jackson car auction (and drool a bit). SO far we are undecided whether to take the 5th wheel and stay a while or take the car and get a weekly rate at a hotel/ condo/resort, return home and then take the Cougar down Fla way for a few weeks (62 day insurance limit) Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Az is full of great places to stay with your RV. You will find that hotels and condos will be at there highest price In Jan. This year is especially big with the super bowl, & the FBR open on the same weekend. I can't remember the dates for the Barret Jackson but it has grown into a huge event with many other smaller auctions in town the at the same time. If you bring the TT you should book a place ahead of time as it is also Snowbird season for us especially after Christmas. http://www.rvparkreviews.com/index.html
check this site out for a very good list of RV resorts and camp grounds. Scottsdale it's self doesn't have any RV parks that I know of but Just west of Fountain Hills at the Fort McDowell casino there is a very nice resort. And just north of Fountian Hills is a very nice county park both are within 20 min of the car auction. In fact I think the Fort hosts the Silver car auctions at the same time. Good luck.

Looks like the Arizona CGs are pretty well booked for January. There are a couple of county parks around Scottsdale that have 14 day limits that look good.
BTW the more reasonable hotels appear to be full too.....hmmm... Maybe the threat of Super Bowl in Feb is doing that.

Not sure if you found a CG yet here is the county parks web site if you don't have it
http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/
Also did you check the Holiday Inn in Fountain Hills. It's a rather new business and I don't think they are as busy as the Scottsdale motels. The Fort also has a new Radison this year but not sure how reasonable they are. Good luck
