Greetings!

I'm a camper from Lansing, Michigan. My family owns some land up on Manitoulin Island, & we would like to go up to camp on the Island for a week this summer. I've done some searches on-line, but it's tough to know which campgrounds on the Island are best, so I'm turning to y'all to see if you can give me some insight.

We'll be towing my sister's 25-ft Rockwood Roo with tipouts & slide, & I'm looking for a nice campground on the waterfront. I figured to ask my Canadian neighbors for your recommendations.

Please either respond to me here, or off-forum at:

windtunnel@acd.net

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Hello colliegirl, Welcome to our web site. I have camped Manitoulin, and found this island to be great. This link might help you find a park. I don't know which park is the best, but the rating system on this site may help you make a choice.

Try this Link

Hope this helps..

Enjoy your trip.. .....Brad

You never said in the post which area of the island you wanted to camp in but if you are interested in camping near Sheguindah I would suggest Batman's. They do have sites on the water which are quite private but you would probably have to reserve in advance as they are the first ones to be booked. Most sites have hydro and water and they will pump your black water if you stay long enough to need it. We used to be seasonal campers at Batmans and enjoyed the park. We have also camped at Providence Bay but they don't have any sites on the water as the park is across the road from the beach but it is more central. The only other campsite we stayed in quite often was at the far end of the island, the Mississagi Lighthouse. It is more rough camping with only a few sites having hydro and water but the water sites have great views and the salmon fishing is good if you have a boat. Hope this helps.

Hello George...Good to see you back in the forums after a while away.
I camped in a park in the West- central area of the Island. Not sure of the name now,(18-20years ago) but I think it was the largest lake on the island.(maybe Kagawong Lake??) Nice spot, but the year we were there, the "skidders" were as big as sparrows.
Any way, good to "Meet" you George, come in as often as you can.. ....Brad
P.S. I liked your web shot photos George.

Hi Brad, I try to keep up on the forums but don't always post but I'll try to be a more regular poster. The biggest inland lake on the Island is Manitou and yes the skitters can be a problem in some areas although Lake Mindemoya has less of a skitter problem. I've never stayed at Stanley Park on Mindemoya although the beach is supposed to be great but it is a very busy park and not as private as some. I should update my photos also but never seem to get around to it. Thanks for the welcome back and have a good year camping.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. We have found a campground that also has cabins that we are currently considering. It's called Mike's Park on Lake Kagawong.

Anyone had any experience with this location?

Thanks again!

My Mom had rented a cabin quite a few years back at Mikes and although they were quite rustic they enjoyed their stay. My memory is pretty bad but I believe the beach was a nice sand and lake Kagawaong is very clear. I don't remember much about the RV camping but I know they do have trailer parking and the owners seemed like nice people. Best thing to do is email them and ask about their services and what they provide, Kagawong is a nice location. Good luck.
