Hi Folks,
We have been told that is illegal to take our sat dish into Canada. We have a portable tripod mounted system. That in fact they can and will confiscate the equipmtent.
Anyone know anything about this?
Dave

Highly unlikely. Issues of illegal satellite use only refer to residents and not visitors. Major problem will be getting reception if you go too far north of the border. US satellite signals do not overlap into Canada as far as Canadian satellite signals overlap into the USA.

Thanks for the reply. Is there some way I can use my equipment and pay someone in Canada to get service?

You should be able to receive a signal from your present satellite provider when in Canada. It just that the positioning of their satellite does not provide a good signal if you get too far north of the Canada US border. Others can chip in, but unless you are going north of Edmonton you should be able to receive your signal as usual. You will just have to find out the coordinates to point your dish to get the signal.

We are going to Toranto area so not too far north. We did find out that we can use Lat and Lon coordinates to get the dish location. Thanks for all the information and replys

Of course U.S. satellite signals can be received in Canada. In fact, if you drive around some areas of Vancouver, you'll see dozens of DirectTV and Dish network satellite dishes. It's technically illegal for Canadians to do this but no one seems to care too much. But, for U.S. citizens it's perfectly o.k.

I had no problems gaining reception in Decatur Indiana with my Bell Express Vu and no state troopers pulled me over either, lol. We sat in Camp Decatur and enjoyed our morning coffee while watching the CBC morning news and the summer Olympic as well. Your service should work in Canada with no problems especially being so close to the Canada/US Border.
