There are several companies that will help you file the right paperwork to get a refund.
They do charge a modest commission but it is worth it.
You will need to get an ITIN number from the US Government and then file the tax return but the company will do all of that for you.
We used a company called RMS out of Toronto. Took a couple of months but we did get the dollars back.
I keep telling the wife CASI..................NO!!

As far as I know, we follow the US (and county laws too) laws and put a Bottle of Whisky flat on the table in a paper bag?
Laws are different, because we are 2 different countries, and that is good so. Nothing wrong with it?! Did anybody say something different here?

Now that makes a whole lot of sense to me rather than double dipping with a tax.

I won 4k and got a tax statement at the time of winnings, no withholdings. If you go to the service booth they will send you a win/lost statement to offset your winnings..If you have a casino close to you that is in the same family as the one you won at, you shoud be able to request one there...good luck, it's worth the effort..Happy Trails..

We have heard of a USA issued card, that we Canadians can show if we win at a USA casino that allows the money to be paid without holding taxes. Has anyone heard of this and if so was there a cost involved in obtaining one. I do not suspect we will actually win again at a casino, but it might be nice to be prepared.
I usually search out a casino for the Friday night seafood feast. This Friday they have all you can eat King Crab for $22 here in Yuma. That will give me my seafood fix for a few months at least.

The DW's persistence has paid off. We got a cheque from the US for the taxes taken out of our winnings last fall. Now to look into this card to stop this from happening again.
Happy Mothers Day to all the Mothers out there.
