Just a thought. How are Christmas customs, yours or ones in the area where you live, just a bit different from the majority of the continent.

For example, here in this part of Newfoundland, many celebrate old Christmas, or January 6. I often leave my tree up until January 6.

& there are mummers. Any Mummers 'lowed In? Not all the time, but a certain amount, yes.

This might be a bit O.T., but my Christmas cards all have ''Merry Christmas''.....and if you don't like it, that's your problem.

Now...a humorous take on the loss of Christmas tradition respect:

Last year I decided not to attend Midnight Mass due to the lack of respect of those attending. Impossible to concentrate due to the constant talking and laughing and the (fairly) occasional scent of alcohol. Why, I was in my pew religiously listening to the sermon and two pews ahead of me, an old fellow lit up a cigarette during the sermon! I was so astounded at his lack of respect that I almost dropped my bottle of beer.

PLEASE TAKE THIS AS TONGUE-IN-CHEEK HUMOR!

No offense meant to anyone, but I thought it was off-the-wall funny..........

You're COMPLAINING!
Here we celebrate St. Nicolas on Dec. 5th first. Loads of presents for the kids, surprise parcels, poems, the whole lot, and when St. Nicolas is gone we have to get everything ready for Christmas, gifts, food, family all over again. It's like celebrating Christmas twice within a month at a 3 week interval.
SHOP TILL YOUR DROP
Only good part is that tacky Christmas decorations are not due till after Dec. 5th.

Just you go right up the top there, Mr. Dutchman and introduce yourself as a new member.

But right here and now I will say this a person from the other NL, who almost moved to Canada as a young adult, has relatives here and was last on this continent in October.

He also owns a TC, has great electical skills I shall try to lure him over to the TC part of this place. In fact I've already posted a picture of their present camper

& I forwarded 2Roadrunners latest post here to him earlier today.

Hey Cornelius........Haarlem......Spent some time in your youth hostel while cycletouring through Holland, Belgium & France. Saw the vindmillen, and eating kersens at Loenen pops into my mind on this snowy day.Welcome to the group.

Brad,... all done and dusted and thanks for the welcome.

Roadrunner, I have dropped people off at that youth hostel a few times. (always pick up hitchhikers) and spend happy evenings there with new friends. It's just been renovated but still there. Did some youth hostelling myself in the past and met my dw in the long gone youth hostel of Aultbea in Scotland that way. Went to revisit the place last year after 25 years of marriage.
Two months ago we were in your neck of the woods, camping of course, not youth hostelling as youth has been and gone.

Hi Lynne, I love it when you talk severe to me!
Still being beaten by computer problems. Second computer is a goner now but data can be saved (it looks).
Today keyboard went, yesterday my mouse and two days my modem. Somebody is trying to tell me something.
I know what I'll ask for Christmas.
