I just went to google.ca entered "discover credit card" , clicked on 'pages from Canada' and got http://www.internetsecure.com/press/pressrelease5.htm as the first entry.

As I read that it seems to me it is a lot like Pay Pal, which is run by e-bay and accepted by most whom I have dealt with online.

Call Discover to be sure. # is on the back of your card.

Most will make the adjustment to you and bill you in US $$ at a rate that is pretty competitive.

If you went to www.google.ca, clicked on pages from Canada, entered the words "disccover credit card" and saw all those possible sites, you would strongly think yes. But if you went and called the number TXiceman said to call, you would be sure.

Of course, you're not going to be sure until you do it yourself and see and hear for yourself.

Just be careful. Many credit cards now charge a foreign transaction fee which is quite sizeable. We have had to change cards because my husband does a lot of international travel for business. I don't know about Discover but I would find out before I went.

I agree with Lynnvt on her advise. Also with Ken. Find out if the card is applicable in Canada first. I have searched extensively , trying to find the answers you need Old one, but can't seem to pin anything down. Like ken advised, the card information # should be an the card, and I would think this is the first place to look for answers....Brad

We were in Canada last month and tried a few of our credit cards, to be prepared for an upcoming trip to Ireland.
We found that the only one that didn't charge us the transaction fee was one we were charter members of..AT & T. All the rest did. However, others told us their AT & T did, so I think it depends on the rules at the time you got the card. Just because one person is charged, doesn't mean another is. I had called, and all of them said they charged, so it was a pleasant surprise that AT & T is still not charging the fee. By the way, those fees really added up! We no longer have Discover, so I'm no help there.

Thanks Doris, I know there are more than Visa and Mastercard honored in Canada, but to be truthful, I'm not to up to par on credit cards. I have explored other sites, trying to find answers for Old one, but I'm sorry to say I couldn't be of much help.

My DH did the research but I think we ended up with a Master Card. I haven't got my card yet so that's why I can't tell. We also wanted one that gave some kind of reward points.

It seemed all I did was go in circles too. I did read that a cash advance could be obtained from Sears with the card. If the card is usable in Canada, they sure don't do a very good marketing job...Brad

Thanks to all for responding. I called the card company and found that yes I could use it there and that there was no added charge to use it.

So Old One, do you mind telling which card it was?
