I saw on Buffalo news past weekend, retailers were hiring additional staff to keep and empty trash cans at borders and malls, of discarded clothing being dumped by cross border shoppers.
....guess thats one way of getting around the Canadian taxes.............

Hi Brad, I remember doing things like that back in the mid 1960's, and in the 70's the malls in Port Huron said it was a common occurence, especially running shoes back then.

The border stores are doing a HUGE business, filling their coffers with tons of Canadian sales tax dollars. Buffalo alone is reporting 12+ Million in tax revenue......have you made any significant cross border purchases???

Brad you know who makes the most money when the Canadian dollar is high or at par? The Canadian government. They buy (support) the Can $ when it is low, remember the .61 cent looney. They bought the Can. $ by the millions when nobody wanted it. Then they sell back to everyone (other countries) when it goes up. Can you imagine the profit they make when the dollar is worth a dollar.?? 30-40 cents on the dollar times millions of them.

Very True Novi....but I think its great when we the little guys get a break too. Re: lower GST, prices. The higher dollar today will result in a further saving of 412.00 on my recent purchase.

Your right Brad, we made a larger purchase for the house in Florida in Nov. and it sure was nice that the Can. dollar was a little higher than the US dollar at the time. What we paid is what it cost rather than the cost plus exchange. A nice change.
