Hi friends,
I have been trying to find suppliers/exports in my area who can assist with replacement of some of my coach furniture as well as possibly painting the coach. Not much luck so far.

I am curious to know if there are duties/taxes on any of this should I have it done in the USA. I have searched the CRA site and can not find any info on this.

If you can help me with this and/or any suppliers in Alta/BC/SK that would be considered expert in this work I would appreciate it.

Thank you!!

Best paint shop by far:

Precision Painting in Bremen, IN

and lots of furniture builders in that area.
The Tax question I can not answer, but GST is due, when you come back North.

Greetings from a "former" Albertan

Globetrotter if you have it done in the US. When you take it back north who is to say it didn't come south the same way it is going north?

Everytime I come back into Canada, I get asked, if I had repairs done in the States? If they don't ask............

I was told that if it cannot be done or repaired in Canada that any repairs made to your coach in the USA should not have duties/taxes imposed when you cross the border. The machines we have are only produced in the USA and because of their limited amounts here in Canada there are likely very few if any skilled in the repairs or upgrades you are considering. Might be a lead for you. Again I am unsure if it is true but just one thing I remember from our Rally this past summer.

Just be sure to not rip off that little white tag on the cushions that says 'do not remove' they'll throw you in jail for that! Haar!

Seriously, how are they (Can. Customs) to know you had any repairs or modifications done south of the border unless those who perform the work report it to Canada Customs - unlikely.

northern canadian:

Sorry but that statement is false. Just another campfire story. However if you have emergency repairs done and report this at the border they MAY not charge you any duty. Most items do not have duty. It is strictly the 2 taxes. Or one if you live in Alberta! Personally I would not fool around and try to cheat. Yes it is tempting but the consequences of trying to cross with say $15,000 in repairs would be devastating. You could lose the MH or end up paying a fine equal to the value of the repairs.
