Gaspe peninsula

I am doing the Gaspe peninsula during the first two weeks of July
I start from Quebec city and take Rt 132 through coastal ways all around this peninsula, through Gaspe and Perce and Chandler in NB

I was wondering about road conditions - how rough are the roads?
I was also wondering about the steep grades i would be facing?
I am pulling a 7200lb truck behind me. Should i sdk the wife to drive that separately where grades are bad?

thanks
jim

3 years ago , I took that route with truck and 5th . I had owned the 5th , for 5 years and had never broken a thing till I was on that road.
There were 3 areas under repair at that time, one where the mud in the detour was 4" deep, but many miles that needed work.
Some grades are steep but short climbs. Brush up on your French, no English on the road signs. It's a long slow route, don't try and rush through.
You also need to be very aware of the weather forecasts. There are long sections of the road carved out of the base of the cliffs , at high tide water level, and signage in several areas warns that storm waves may wash you off the road.
Beautiful views ,yes , would I drive it again , no.

We did that last year and would not be afraid to do it again. There are steep hills but not to long. We had no problem a gas coach and toad. We would recommend this trip to anyone, just take your time. We found that most people would great us in French but switch to English as soon as we replied in English. We did have one rv park where no one spoke English but we did manage.

We did the Gaspe peninsula about 3 years ago in a 30 foot B Plus towing a Honda FIT. We made it all the way around but I don't think I'd care to do it again. As other posters have said, there are some nasty grades so I would certainly consider driving the toad separately, especially out around Perce. We drove the peninsula counter clockwiase, but have since been told that the better way is to go around clockwise, that way the scenery just keeps getting more spectacular.

X 2 on knowing some French. This area is way out in the boonies. Also, internet access was very spotty. Several campgrounds offered WiFi but shut it down when the office closed in the evening.

Take a boat trip around Perce rocks. Go ashore and hike across the island to the gannet colony.

A couple of things I forgot to mention. Campground America parks are plentiful in the first portion of the trip. Most chain restaurants have English menus available. And in Perce, ATMs are hard to find, and because of their limited season a lot of stores didn't take C/Cards.
