Any one travelled hwy 99 between Cashe Creek and Whistler B.C. How was it to drive, did you tow an RV through it?? Was it scary?

haven't driven it in a while, but my grandfather just did with his TT, he went from Hope(his home) to Whistler(stayed overnight in a parking lot), then drove to Lilloet(stayed in a gravel pit), and finally on to Cache Creek(sometimes refered to as "Trash Creek") to spend a week with my folks (who live there).

There is some construction between CC and Lilloet, and you will need to ensure that you spend a little less time watching the scenery as you drive or you will end up in trouble.

it is not a scary road if you take your time, go slow on the downhills(cautious not of overheat brakes) as there are many unannounced sharp turns.

But otherwise an awesome drive.

good morning brad.
have driven that route both directions several times. the whole route is very scenic but the driver will not have much opportunity to appreciate it. cache creek to lillooet is winding and undulating mostly 2 lane.
the climb out of lillooet is long and winding with few passing lanes. the mid section follows a river thru cayoosh pass and twists and undulates with some bumpy stretches.
the last section down to pemberton is steep with switch backs. watch your speed and do not follow a large vehicle down, the smell of their brakes smoking will choke you off the road.
it is a scenic route and is not scary, just go slow and enjoy the view.

Good Morning rockman, and Welcome. I actually drove that route in '95. Just wondering if it has changed much sense then. I know the wife wasn't impressed with it, or our travelling companions. Ended up doing a brake job on one van in Nanimo. Good thing I only had a hard top at the time. I must say its about the most exciting road I have ever driven, which only required a change of under wear twice.

hello brad.
we off season camp, which means we stay home june, july, and august.

so the last time I drove the 99 from whistler to lillooet was during a blizzard. hindsight, they should have closed the road. only way I could stay on the road was keep the passenger side tires on the gravel shoulder.
the chains on all 6 tires really helped too.

but there are some nice forestry campsites along the way if you want to slow down and enjoy the views.

if you really want to scare your passengers try the hurley road north of pemberton up to gold bridge. if your bladder don't spring a leak one or two of your tires might.

Thanks rockman, the trip we had was just about all we could handle Hurly road north??? I don't think so. I have travelled a lot of scary roads.. Gaspe' in PQ, Cabot Trail NS, but this road was the Ultimate All in All the scenery was something one would only see in BC. We actually stumbled onto this road when we left SIL house in Williams Lake on our way to Vancouver. In hind sight a trip to remember.LOL In the process of getting a Durimax/Allison for the next trip your way next year.

Update,

My boss came through on tuesday Aug 2, on his motorcyle, he said:

the scenery was awesome, but the road made going slow, frost heaves, and pot holes.

It sounds like it hasn't been well maintained.

end update.
