I imported a used MH last Nov. The Gov web page gave all the info and they will accept faxed copies of the paper work you require
Canada , www.riv.ca 1-888-848-8240. Admissibility list at www.tc.gc.ca
Motorized exporting from the USA has it's own set of rules,so you'll have to get ahold of,
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the border crossing ( Canada & US) that you plan to use, they required originals of all documents at CBP. and in my case 72 hours notice of my arrival.
Good luck.

Groveite,
I imported a new TT from Washington State (from a dealer) in May. It was easy. Paid no state tax (signed a paper stating it was being exported within 32 days) and just took it to the Canadian border where we paid GST only. We then paid RVIV a fee (around $200), had the trailer inspected at Canadian Tire, and then insured it. Paid PST at that time.
It was very easy, and we saved about $6,000.
Hope that helps,
Tom

Looks like I'll get first hand experience in a week or so!

Well we took a chance and will find out next week what the pitfalls may be. RV wholesalers in Oh seem to be pretty busy and easy to deal with. Will report back when it is done!

Hope all went well with your purchase.

I also just recently bought my 2010 Newmar from the States. The savings is huge - so sad for the Canadian economy that they cannot (will not) compete.

There are details in the paperwork process and an order to follow but not difficult.

The only hitch so far is that my insurance Co (Aviva /Elite) will not issue any insurance until it is registered in Ontario....Anyone have any experience with a workaround on that?

I was surprised that mine didn't...It may be a good thing as in looking I found a quote (not confirmed yet ) that was about 1/2 the price of Elite...don't know yet whether they will cover it in transit tho! waiting to hear back. I think my truck liability will cover that side of things while towing, but Aviva has been slow to respond to queries.

Well it looks like there are no companies that write all perils for a trailer in transit...have to gamble on the liability carry-over ...I think there is a market for 30 day stuff like that ...a premium could be charged!!

Last year I bought a used motorhome in Florida and drove it back to BC. I don't think you can get registration for anything until you have completed the importation process, but I was able to get what was called an insurance binder to cover me until I got home. I wonder if Ontario has provincial legislation that prohibits this.

I also got an insurance binder, but had to have a temp permit for every state i drove threw or insurance would be void.

Trailer is as advertised and the service at RV wholesalers was great! New F150 ecoboost towed very well and had plenty of power....Still miss the diesel for economy (12 to 14 as opposed to the 9 to 11 gas) but most driving is non towing so..... Now to see about the taxes etc...in 2 weeks ...this is a test run after all!

We just recently bought an RV in florida and took back to Ontario we had no problems...both sides looked at the GOOD paperwork and only wanted to take the taxes ....important to have dealer make out all paper work properly and goes well..with the insurance we had the same problem and had to purchase insurance in the states until we were completly inspected at Canadain Tire outlet and licenced and registered.Coed
