Information on carrying a gun into Canada
I was wondering where I may get information about carrying a shot gun (for protection) into different states as well as Canada. I know it is illegal to transport a pistol into Canada.
Any information will be helpful.
Thanks Roy Francis

You dont need to be packing heat in Canada. The only threat you will encounter here is bad weather.

We went into Ontario this past summer and the one thing that we got quizzed about (perhaps because of our Texas license plates) was guns. I'd strongly advise against attempting to take a shotgun into Canada because the reason that your provide isn't acceptable, as I understand it. Shotguns for sporting purposes are OK - if you get the proper permit. I suspect that you will get a lot of questions about whether you have it for sporting purposes and may be asked to prove it is for that purpose.
It appears to be a very touchy subject and I personally wouldn't risk it. We left our at home.

If you believe that there are no "bad guys" in Canada, I have some swampland I want to show you. Their crime issues are the same as ours. They just can't protect themselves like we can. I take a shotgun across all the time. $50 fee. I'm a hunter and that's what it's for. Never an issue.

Plenty of bad guys but less guns here for them to use. Just bring a kitchen knife, you will be fine.

The only people armed in Canada are the police and the criminals. I know it's my loss, but I will not be taking our motorhome anywhere I can't legally transport my shotgun! I guess I'll have to be content traveling the lower 48 states.

Wow you really like your shotgun huh?
FWIW, as a Canadian, I travel extensively thru the US with my family and never felt the need to be armed. Are you REALLY that concerned about your safety, or is it a matter of "principal". If it's a safety thing, better to just stay home 'cause the freeways are more likely to take your life than a criminal at an RV park.
