Will be entering Alberta from Montana next year. Would like to carry more than 1.14L spirits per person for personal consumption. Say 3-4 X that amount. Price in my state is much less than in Canada. Can I pay duty and take it in or is that cost prohibitive? How much is the duty? Will it be confiscated no matter what? Thanks. Is there a site I can go to and ask Canadian Customs?

FlyFish,

It is my understanding that how much you can bring into Canada is regulated by each Province separately and not by Canada Customs.

In this case you are entering into Alberta so you should contact AGLC - Contact Us

Be honest with them. I have a buddy who had their whole coach torn apart when they found more than was declared.

generally the duty applied to excess amounts of liquor and wine will bring the cost up to above the price in Canada...the exception is the 5 case of beer limit that gives a discount if you buy 5 , the duty brings the price up to about $5 a case lower than Cdn price. There are very specific quantity limits that I don't have access to but here is a link to a duty free shop that shows the costs for smaller amounts Uni-Can Duty Free
