We plan a cross Canadian trip on Hwy 1 in our class C. What can I expect, cost, roads, camping spots, etc.

Thanks for your input,
Len

Hi Len....first, when you reply, use the "reply to this post" link at the bottom of the thread. This just keeps the whole topic in one thread and gives continuity to the topic.

Now, roads are usually very good, with the worst being in northern Ontario. Keep in mind these roads are being up graded all the time, so some construction may not be avoidable. There are dozens of both private and provincial parks along the way.I suggest you go on-line and hit each Provincial Tourism link. They provide info on every aspect of travel, accomidation, etc through their provinces. I have driven across our country twice, and if possible take enough time to see the high points in each province. Sounds like your in for a good trip, enjoy, and Please contact me if I can help out further....Brad P.S. In my opinion, you have joined a super RV web site. Any questions you have, don't hesitate to ask...

Hi Len, in BC you have 3 choices
AB 2
SK 2
ON - the Northern Route to Montrael (lonely)
or around the Great Lakes (very nice route)
How much time do you have? and what do you like to see... drive and come back another time to see the rest.....
Maybe give us more info about your route

Morning Len: I'm having trouble answering your question because the question is so broad. Yes the transcanada highway runs coast to coast but it is not like a interstate highway. It is 4 lanes in places but is often only 2 lanes and 50 mph will be fast in some areas. The mountains out west and the woods of northern Ontaro are very scenic and it takes time to drive thru them. Coast to coast and back is around 9000 miles as Brad said. So at 500 miles per day you need 18 days of constant driving, that's hard on you and your machine. How long do you have? I would hope at least amonth preferably 2 for a trip like this. Is there any specific things you would really like to see, sort of must do or see? There are many places you will want to stay more than 1 day. Gas costs are down, that will help some. Camping is readily available in most areas. Roads in general are good but not 4 lane super highways like in the USA. In RVing getting there is at least as much fun as being there.

Once you get to Alberta try to get on #2. Smoother and excellent municipal campgrounds along the route.
