We have booked our passage to the "rock" for May 9th with a return date of June 8th. We have so little time to learn Newfunese. After 2 years of planning, we are finally going to make it. I sure hope they don't run out of seafood, icebergs and whales before we get there.
We have heard so many great things about this great land. I wonder if they have a Tim Hortons over there.
I would be mighty grateful to anyone who may want to offer any suggestions for our trip and would love to hear from anyone else making this trip.

The family and I were going to make a trip to The Rock this summer but the kids Great Grandmother comes first. They have Tim Horton's and lots of seafood and icebergs. I could put you in touch with some friends of mine that have live in Newfoundland for most of their lives if you like. Most live on the east coast of the island and might be able to help you with your plans and places to see. If you like send me a personal message and I will give you their emails after I get their permissions. Enjoy your trip, and my family and I will be looking forward to reading your adventure. Sincerely Blake

Hey Dave, your going to enjoy this trip. Been there, done that...a fantastic trip. If you land at Port au Basques, there is a close campground at Grand Codroy some thirty miles from P au B. Must see Gros Morne Nat. Park. Bergs can be see around north shor of Island, down through Trinity Bay and south through St. Johns. Witless Bay offers superb whale watching ( you won't beleive the size of those things) Caribou around the Irish Loop.....Let me know how I can help with your plans.

Hello Brad
Thanks for your info for Newfoundland. I have gathered a few great things to see and do over past year and have them logged into the S&T so I think we will be kept busy. I appreciate your input and if you think of any more, please fell free to pass them along.

| Whale watch Here is a link for the best whale watching near St. John's..IMO. Signal Hill, Cape Sphere, downtown pubs and taverns are all "must see" Be prepared to "Kiss the Cod" Plenty of sea food along the way...do try the Bake Apple Pie...avoid any Seal Flipper food. I could go on and on and on....you'll see for yourself. If you don't enjoy "da Rock" your just not trying... P.S. you'll no doubt pick up a lot of Newfanese along da way me son....
P.S.S. Boondocking is allowed any where on the Island..

| We spend 30 days on "The Rock". It was early in the season and the nights were cold. We got snow in Corner Brook but for the most part the weather was very co-operative. The dis-advantage to being in here this early is the fact a lot of the campgrounds and tourist related attractions are closed. On the plus side, we are able to park the rig practically anywhere we wanted. This turned out to be a great feature. We were able to stay at a lot of lighthouse's with the million dollar views of the ocean. That sure beat any campground and it was free. The fishing season was in full swing so there was plenty of lobster, snow crab, shrimp, cod fish and scallops. We drove 7,230 klms and only stayed in campgrounds 11 nights of the 30. We seen 155 moose, 15 caribou, 8 whales and we lost count of how many icebergs but it would have been about 25 good sized icebergs. We made it over to Labrador for 2 nights only after a discussion with a couple of RV'ers from Quebec who talked us into it. This trip to NewFunLand has confirmed to us that we MUST come back for another visit, this time for 2 or 3 months in the summer.
