When do you all start your search for where you want to go on your next long vacation?

Now, this year was family reunion year. & there were things I didn't fit in from other trips (ie, Louisbourg Fortress believe it or not), so much of my research was done before. & I've never visited the Plains of Abraham.

But I'm already reading and planning for next June or July? Am I alone? Or.........?

Morning LK, normally for me that is too far in advance, I might be thinking of a trip that far ahead but would not start any real planning or research related to it.

Hey Kopit, I do plan my Major trips far in advance. This year wasn't planned too well, due to the fact of our busy summer - weddings, babies, showers etc,... glad thats over! Usually all our ducks are in-a-row,which makes vacation less hectic.

always plan waaaaaaayyyyyyyy in advance.

We put our plan together as early as possible, then advertise it to everyone that is part of the trip, or the destination.

That way people can work around our schedule, instead of us freaking out at the last minute because someone else had plans.

Also, my work commitments tend to screw with all plans, example - work said I was moving to Halifax summer 05, waited until 30 minutes before we listed the house with a realtor before changing thier mind. All plans had been in place. Totally changed our summer. Now they say summer 06. Hmmmm, I wonder what will happen next.

wanna hear what I have planned for next year? I have 2 or 3 plans already in development(learned my lesson this year) that will protect me should my world change again.

Sure, tell away B.K.

I usually have options too, but not for the next 3 summers for sure. 06 has to be Labrador for me. I wonder if one can do too much planning.

Hey Kid.. I too plan far in advance. Sometimes things just don't work out though. Last Year I had plans and reservations to go to NL. Crossing with Marine Atlantic was to be July 4th, hospital re scheduled surgery for July 5th.Cancelled my reservations July 1, then July 2 hospital cancelled surgery. By that time my plans were ruined, and we ended up only going to Boston. Sometimes the plans work...sometimes not.

We just returned from an 11000 mile, 7 week trip around the country. For this trip, because of where all we were going, we planned, made up the itinerary and made reservations several MONTHS in advance. You can see the resulting trip at the link in my signature.

Now, having said that, we are occasionally disappointed when we wait too long to make reservations when we go to popular destinations. Even state parks and smaller venues are filling up these days. The popularity if camping is clearly on the rise so we've found we have to do earlier planning than we had to in the past. Good luck.

Camper1b, I just have to ask. Have you done much on this side of the border. New York is quite close to Quebec and Ontario? & Atlantic Canada seems pretty close to me too. If yes, what is on your 'round-to-it' list?

Do I remember correctly when I think IBM upon seeing 'Endicott'?

Trip planning? Wuzzat? Last year we left for a ''ride'' and decided to right at the light at the corner of Exit 318 on the #20....and we wound up in the tail end of Nicole parked in the Hank Snow Museum parking lot in Liverpool, N.S.

This year, a bit more on top of it, we aimed for Branson, Mo....Actually we were heading to Portsmouth, Va., but figured that Branson would just be detour of sorts.

We choose a destination, Goggle all over the possible roads to see what is going on, festivals etc. and eventually we show up there.

That's called RETIREMENT. Sometimes we even tell the kids!

My two other dream trips (we just completed the first) are Alaska and to visit your neck of the woods. I would love to see Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Quebec, etc. But, for the kids, I wanted our first BIG trip to allow them to see as much of their country as possible. (We have done all eastern US states already). We will probably wait for a few years to do the Canadian Maritimes and Alaska. But, we can certainly dream now!

Yes, Endicott still has IBM, although it's a sad shadow of its former self. I'm actually at the Lockheed Martin plant just down the road. I started here when it was IBM and stayed along for the ride when it was sold to Lockheed Martin.

Later.

Boy, that's the way to do it. I can't wait until I can travel like that. Our 7 week trip made me realize how neat that type of lifestyle would be.
