Well, it sounds as if you will be crossing into heavily populated territory. Of the 10 provinces and 3 territories in Canada, only Ontario is in the area you described. When I lived in Ontario, my job HQ was in Sudbury, which means I associate moose with places north of Barrie. Algoquin Park has good camp spots and occupies a lot of space between Barrie and Ottawa. West of Ottawa is Deep River, which is connected to things Nuc. Google Deep River. It may interest you.

Good Morning Amos. When is this trip going to take place? Crossing at Niagara Falls/Fort Erie or Detroit makes it impossible to avoid metro areas.
Your chances of seeing Moose in these areas , probably won't happen. The only hydro electric sites in that area are the power plants in Niagara Falls NY and Sir Adam Beck power plant in Niagara, Ontario.
If you had the time, a trip to more northern areas of Ontario would be better for seeing wild life.

Crossing either way at (I 69)Port Huron is one option..It is less travelled but still busy at times...Following higway 21 N/B will take you along the shores of Lake Huron and eventually close to the Bruce Nuclear Power facility..then on up thru the Bruce Peninsula..there are no moose in this area but we do have our share of Bear, deer and fish...lots of good camping areas/parks..depending on your choice of routes you can drive around Georgian Bay and head north into Moose country or you can take the chicheeman ferry across to Manitoulin Island and come back down from Sudbury...I cant find my website addresses........do a search on The Bruce Peninsula..... and The Grey Bruce tourism.. there is lots to see and do here...as a matter of fact doing the Upper Michaigan Peninsula and circling lake Huron is going to accomplish a lot of what yu want to do. A day trip to Niagara Falls is easily accomplished by a little creative routing.......

It appears some have forgotten about the "moose" in Toronto. The mayor was putting a "moose" on every major street corner and some are still around. Couldn't resist. However all the other info. is accurate.

The Port Huron/Sarnia crossing would be the easiest I suspect however you will still see lots of Detroit as the shortest rte would be I75 to I94 ( in Detroit that is affectionately known as "Malfunction Junction") and I94 to the Bluewater bridge, then 402 which starts at the bridge. If you are heading to "The Falls" stay on 402 which merges with 401 and then branches off as 403 . You can then follow the signs that will get you to the falls. This time of year is very nice for the hwy 21 trip up L Huron however it is frequently closed during the winter months due to whiteouts from blowing and drifting snow (you are in the lee of the lake so think Lake Effect snow). Not too many campgrounds will be open after the middle of Oct in Ontario and I am hoping you are planning for a spring trip. Many of the campgrounds open early May however beware of the "24th of May " long weekend as sites are in great demand.
The suggestion of the Lake Huron circle tour is great. We have done it both ways and really like the clockwise route (Mi and then On) . Please don't mis the "Thumb" area of Mi as it is a wonderful place to visit...the Mi state parks are well kept and welcoming...the On Provincial parks are beautiful but some are declining due to budget restraints and a few have very small sites...(but not the ones between Sarnia and Sauble beach).
When you decide your route and timing please let us know as I am sure there will be lots of specific information that you can glean from the great members here.

Glad we could help out in some small way Amos. There should still be plenty to do in Niagara Falls Canada this time of year.
If you get the oportunity to re-visit us, summer in the "North" will often offer up Moose sightings, good camping, and plenty to see. In the mean time..enjoy your trip to Canada next week.....Brad

Amos if you like wines or are interested in vinyards there are plenty in the Niagara area with tours and free wine tasting. This area of Canada has won many world wine awards in the last few years. Some of the best wines made come from this area. Especially the ice wines they are world famous.
