Flying J here is still at .965/L as of earlier today. I could not figure why the line-ups were so long at the Can. Tire pumps today, but now I know. We seem to be like lemmings one panics we all panic and over the cliff we go.

We are slowly inching down to the $.90/L that LK was hoping to see again. Flying J at London has been at .95?/L for 2 days.

Latest "shortage" comes in the form of natural gas. Over 50% of homes in USA are heated with natural gas. Ripple effect will no doubt hit Canada as well. Rumour has it there may not be enough gas for all the customers. Dose any one Honestly believe there will be a shortage, or just a cash shortage in the gas company bank accounts!!!
Glad I have wood heat with electric back up.
Love that wood heat......Brad

Shortage?? I read an article several years ago that Canada has drilled many, many gas wells up north and capped them because we do not need them. The article show pictures of hundreds of unused gas wells. They are for future use, apparently we have vast gas supplies untouched. I have also read articles that have said we will not run out of oil or gas in our life time, or our childrens life time. However, that said, the supply cannot be infinite so alternate fuels are a good idea. I think this is just the current round of demand/supply crunch that is cyclical and it too will pass and everyone will say, "what was that really all about", just like last time.

Sure, Novi, sure! Whom do you work for?

My friend in Oz says that he has read where the multinational oil companies are supressing research into alternative fuels. Now, that one makes sense to me.

Only time will tell LK. I worked with people who could not remember the last recession in the eighties. I worked with them and lived thru it with them but when I asked them if they remembered certain things they had no idea what I was even talking about. Do you remember the oil crisis of the 70's? No gas at any price at many stations. Do you recall the interest rates of the early eighties? 22-25%. People walking away from their houses by the thousands and CMHC went broke and the federal government had to give CMHC millions of dollars to honour their contracts with the banks? I think I'm showing my age too much here so I better shut up.

Novi,

You're older'n dirt. However if it helps any, I too remember all those events.Come to think of it I recall the big stink when I was a teenager and gas went up to .30¢/gal. ''I don't care how much it is, I'm not putting anymore than $2.00/week in the tank''. We come a long way, baby.

Novi, I may or may not be older than dirt and I am still gainfully employed, but someone made me count it up yesterday. 2 year 4 months until retirement. There you almost have my birth date.

Sure, I remember the supply shortages and when Crosby invited Trudeau to trounce him at the polls with his great gasoline tax. & the interest rates of that era too. Those shortages were more one of organization than possible extractions.

Since then we have 'free' trade which just seems to me that governments have given greater freedom to mega corporations to dictate the prices of things and immediate supply. That doesn't encourage me to think I will have the facts from those same corporations. That we have plenty of fossil fuels I doubt. That we need to have alternative fuels, I accept.

That we should meet all of our energy needs from the few sources we have develped now, is borrowing trouble home. Altenates are mandatory.

I too remember these things.Maybe slightly younger then some of you. Cheapest gas I recall was .40/gal. I do remember the high mortgage rates real well.
Kopit I believe we have vast supplies of oil. These oil companies didn't just wake up and discover the supplies are low. If they knew quantities were low, say fifteen years ago, be assured we would have been paying huge sums at the pumps, all the way along. We do need to find alternate sources of energy, but as far as oil shortage....Just a huge, total greed driven rip-off!! The prices will continue to rise as long as we continue to pay them.

Brad, you young whipper snipper, gentleman of leisrure and Deere pursuits, would you agree that it would be useful to not have all of our eggs in one fossil fuel basket?

?

I do agree Kopit, but there will never be an alternate fuel discovered that will take the place of oil.
Oil,is in everything. Name afew things that don't require oil in one form or an other.. to produce or harvest something else. There arn't many. What alternate fuel has those capabilities?
The next great shortage to take place will be natural gas, all ready predicted for this winter. For years all sub-division development has had Natural gas as a source of heat fuel. In the last twenty years alone, hundreds of thousands of homes/businesses relying on this fuel as a source of energy were built, and all of a sudden, there isn't enough fuel to go around. I don't think so! A Total Scam to boost prices, and the ones who suffer from this Greed are the ones who can least afford it.
The Whole Scam just cheeses me off!

Sigh, we're all cheesed off at this scam, rip-off etc, but I would say it's our governments letting the legal framework be put in place to let this happen that really gets my goat. That affects far more than my pocket book.

That affects the well being of generations to come.

I still think we can't depend on fossil fuels lasting into infinity.
