Ontario has always registered Motorhomes based on the year indicator (tenth character) in the VIN. This meant if you had a 2009 motorhome built on a 2008 chassis, it would be registered as a 2008 motorhome. This has the potential to confuse at minimum and to cost - in the worst case on - a subsequent sale.
I found by accident last week that this policy has been changed so that MHs are now registered based on the model year assigned by the final manufacturer AND it is possible to have your registration changed. The policy now aligns with that in most of the US.
Details are in item 5 of the registration FAQS:
Registration of Motor Homes
I had mine corrected last week at a Service Ontario outlet by providing my existing registration and a copy of the original dealer invoice showing the VIN and correct year and a copy of the FAQ page with the details. No argument and no cost! Other documents will also suffice according to the FAQs. I apologize if this is old news but it will be of interest to those of us who own "split year motorhomes"
