Do you have a favorite province, if so which ones, and why?

Brad03ca:

sure do,:
Newfoundland for it's friendly folks.
Nova Scotia for lobster and scenery.
Prince Edward Island for it's golf courses and beaches.
New Brunswick for fishing.
Quebec for cultural diversity and Quebec City.
Ontario cause that's where I am.
Manitoba for huntingand fishing.
Saskatchewan for feeding us all and it's hockey players
Alberta for it's cowboys and stampede.
B.C. for its mountains and skiing.
The Territories for unspoiled natural beauty.

My what a great place we live in.

Gotta agree with you Novi about Bob's reasons. I've been in all provinces except the Territories, but ya know I would rather be in Newfoundland than anywhere else. Something about being so remote and rugged. The slow pace really appeals to me as well as the people. I've never met people like that before, and there's just sooo much to do! Can't wait to get back there again.

I have to agree that Newfies are some of the greatest people I've ever met. We were in Newfoundland last summer, got lost in town on two occasions, and had local people lead us to our destination. Don't known many folks who would do that.

We had a similar experience in Montreal in 84. We took the kids to try out their school French and to tour Montreal. When ever we sat down on a side walk bench to check our maps someone would stop and offer help, on two occaisions they said come on with me I'll show where it is and took us right to the place we were going. Kids and wife never did get to try out their French vocabulary as everyone spoke English to us, and menus in restaurants were English and French. We had a truly great week in Montreal.

Those "Newfies" really showed the world how they can care for people, I saw the special on TV about the plane loads of people stuck there during the 9-11 crisis, they truly put NFDL on the map.

The Newfoundlanders sure did Canada proud. From a province that has a somewhat depressed economy, compared to the rest of Canada, residents there showed the rest of the world what caring and compassion is all about. How many people would welcome total strangers into their homes, feed them, and even give up their beds in an Emergency??????? Not too many!! They make me truely proud to be a Canadian.

Doggievet: You must have got lost in St.Johns? Aren't the roads there something, like a spider web.

Got lost in Corner Brook - maps aren't all that clear for in-city driving especially with a large RV. Second time we were in a car searching for a specific sporting goods store to buy a salmon fishing license. Didn't have any luck fishing, but the experience (fly fishing in Humber River) was absolutely great.

I have been in St Johns on two occasions - once in summer on a tent-camping trip in 1990 and the second time in 1997 during February. The latter was my first and only experience in a blizzard. We drove out of St Johns just before the roads closed - went to Trepassey on the coast. It was quite an experience. Wind and snow driving sideways and highway totally deserted except for our two vehicles. We had to get to Trepassey, otherwise we would have stayed in the hotel and watched the storm.

Too bad about your luck Doggievet...sounds a lot like my luck! Did you have to hire a Guide?

Actually, the trips to Nfl were fantastic. We did not have a guide, except for fishing of course, and had a great time. We were early in the season for salmon, the weather was rainy and very cool, but the river was great. I'd go again in a heartbeat even if I didn't catch fish.
By the way, Sparky enjoyed the trip; he didn't go fishing but he made a lot of new 2-legged friends.

Being just south of Quebec, we have enjoyed Montreal and Quebec for many years. I love Montreal and now that our daughter lives in Toronto, I am beginning to love Toronto. A few years ago we went to PEI and loved that area as well. We would go back again if it weren't so far. The people there were very friendly too. Something we continue to talk about. I wish they could give lessons in that hospitality because it sure makes you feel good.
