Your right Johny-Maple I read an article on aging and many injuries to 50-60 year olds come from trying to do things that they did in their 30's. I know I am in good physical shape and very active but I can not do the things I did 20-30- years ago but that is no excuse to not keep active. And try as I might I can't keep up with our grandson he just wears me down with his energy level, but we have a good time trying. LOL.

Hey Johnny.........As my kids tell me, ''Dad, don't let the man getcha'' ( They have been surfing my CCR collection).

Yes, like you say it is interesting reading how folks take retirement.

Also like you, due to arthrosis in both knees I can no longer hike but I do X-C, biking, inline skates and I put away my canoe Sunday as the lake was frozen over..

Hey....canoeing at sundown with a trout line run out and not really giving a rat's patootie if you catch anything or not, and it is a Tuesday....now THAT is retirement.

My favourite self-made motto:

''I want to die young, as old as possible''.

Hang in there Johnny, your grandson will keep you young and keep you going.

Really glad to see that you all are taking your retirment to the limit instead of buying a season ticket for Tim Horton's.

If any of you get down around Panama City this winter, try spending a day on Shell Island. You will learn that solitude is as sacred as walking barefoot in the sand.........Aw mannnn, !

We've been here in Myrtle Beach since Oct. 24th. A fellow from Ontario is across from me and a fellow just pulled in next to him from New Brunswick, wherever that is. There also was a young family from Quebec on the other side but they were only here for 6 days. We've been hanging out with Ted and Marg from Ontario.

I'm parked about 100 yards from the ocean and the longest fishing pier on the East coast is here at Apache CG. We can see the surf and pier from our site. My wife is a beach bum and she couldn't be happier. It's currently 75F here.

We plan to leave the coach here and drive the car back to Pittsburgh shortly after our Thanksgiving. We were going to stay home until Dec 26th but I think we'll only stay to transact some financial business, cleanup the leaves and pickup our mail. I'd like to pickup the coach around Dec 5th and head for FL.

We'll be headed to Crystal River, FL. We've spent the last 3 winters there at Quail Roost CG.

Tom, I sure hope you blush. Say, pardon me, but I take offense. New Brunswick

To not know where a province of Canada is and to post that on a thread in the Canada Region.

New Brunswick Tourism

I can't embarass you enough!!

I can relate to all this......I have an arthritic shoulder (sports inj)..and the arthritus is trying to expand to my hands(3times at work)&wrists(work inj-bullet wound)...I blew a knee last year(2nd time..work inj)... the emergency room Dr. says "You old buggers Just don't know when to quit do you, your'e not thirty anymore, stop acting like it".. I refuse to give in and will keep doing what I can for as long as I can..If i sit still and do little i will waste away to a nothing.. besides if it wasnt for the pain, i wouldnt have a single thing to complain about..

Re. arthritis. A physiotherapist once told me that most adults 30 or older have arthritis.

Me too. Osteoarthritis.

Have I sung the praises of glucosamine here, for me gluscasmine plus chrondroitin. It helps rebuild your joints and stay away from those anti-flamatory drugs, such as viox.

My doctor had put me on viox. Well, about 3 years ago, I heard on CBC that viox might have an effect on ones heart. I had been taking gluocosamine, so I dropped. We all know that viox has been dropped along with some other anti-inflamatory drugs. It lets me sleep without heating pads, electric blankets and other such. Going home at night, climbing my stairs, yes I feel it. I want my supper a bit of the Internet and I'm ready to head outdoors.

Oh yes, dumb, but I still do many things in my garden on my knees. The habits of a life time. To learn a new procedure - that's too slow.

There are ways to work around arthritis.

AH yes that is a nice area. I remember digging up the beach, I like to metal detect, don't think I found much. I agree with Brad, I'd rather be there than here in the cold.

What really irritated me was that I taught Physical Education for 33 years plus the usual coaching, etc., and since retiring, had developed my own fitness routine *which involved a gradual decrease in the number of reps and sets to take into account for my increasing age*! It turns out, that wasn't enough. I should have dropped from the pair of 10 lb dumbels to 5 lbs. Anyway, along with the bum shoulders (one a rotator cuff problem), I had stretched one of two tendons joining the bicep muscle to the shoulder. Anyway, I was put on Vioxx (LK, take note) but the Dr. noticed that my blood pressure med wasn't doing it's job. He figured the Vioxx was cancelling out the benefits and took me off it and onto glucosomine sulphate. Down went my blood pressure! Everything is now stable but while I have a few aches and pains, the enjoyment of anything outdoors continues. I should add that I just took delivery of a 1950s Trapper Nelson Indian Pack Board No.2 in excellent condition and intend to use it on some hikes next year; maybe even do a little bit of ground-and-tent camping with grandson at the local conservation area.

It was a little joke but I don't think I could draw a map of the eastern provinces.

Johnny....First off, I am glad to see you tent camping with your grandson. I am tent camper at heart, but have a small RV only because of a situation which is out of my control.

As for weights. I used 5 lbs. rather than 10 lbs. but used them longer. I raced with the Canadian Masters Cross Country Ski group for about ten years. Found that too heavy was too much of a long term strain. Also used tomato cans...too. LOL.

Time with your grandson is gold!. You must be very special for him.

Bonjour, eh, 2Roadrunners. Just noticed your place of residence. I got as far as your population centre once, when I worked in Howick one year. Must have been in 1960 I think. Worked on a farm there trying to build up weight and muscle for entry into the RCMP.
