thanks for everybody's considerate and humorous replies.
i already use a mesh bag full of brushed out dog fur next to each truck wheel to keep the cats from wizzing on the wheels and rotors.
with the cats scared away that's probably why the squirrels are having a field day.

might try the moth balls in an old sock in the engine bay. now if i can only find a couple of co-operative moths. maybe if i place a bare light bulb in the engine bay the moths would be attracted to the light. problem solved and no moths would have to suffer.

You can bet that putting the light bulb in there is going to result in a cats asstrophy..they like the heat of the motor in the cold winter, snuggle up to the fan and you know what happens then....The cayenne pepper has always worked for the birds too...we put it in the bird bath so they can have a hot bath every now and then...
