We have to make a choice in the next two weeks. Can you give me any guidance as to any problems associated with moving your receiver to your RV etc and reception in Florida, Texas and Arizona?
Thanks

Hi FC

Sorry there hasn't been a big response to your question! I think if you if you read through some of the earlier entries on this thread Expressvu/StarChoice you'll get the sense that Star Choice works a little harder for their customers then does Expressvue! I know as an Expressvue customer I've been left wondering if I need to make a change if we're planning to head south for any extended period of time!

When I spoke to Expressvue they said its a no no to take unit in the MH. When I spoke to Star Choice their information mentions using units in your RV and they even sell a tripod and a sat finder for use in campgrounds etc.
Think it will be Star Choice as I do not have a roof mounted dish now.

Hi,
Biggest issue to be aware of is that StarChoice will give you all channels throughout the southern US while Bell will lose some transponders particularly in the far south of Fl and certainly in the Rio grande valley in TX and Arizona as well. Plus if I recall Sc although not as many HD channels as Bell runs a little less money than Bell. Switched from Bell 2 years ago happy with SC

Good Day
I use the STAR Choice because they permit me to use in RV,,,
I have Star choice system at home , for an extra $4.99 , another receiver can be used my RV..Have used the system about four years and it works great..
I leave the second receiver account active all year , however I don't use it in the winter..
Sometimes in the spring when I set up the system , it will not work right , I think the system maybe deactivated when not in use for several months , not sure about this..However , I just phone Star Choice and they do something to make the system work and away we go for another season..

I winter in Yuma and lose about 50% of channels on ExpressVu. When gently raising this issue with Bell upon return to Canada, they simply say: CRTC Rules prohibit them from transmitting or supplying signal across border. You will not be able to access any pay-per-vu as that will trigger a complete shutdown of the system as they (Ma Bell) become aware of the area code being out of country.

I'm just about finished with the beauracracy of Bell as I've become determined to cut all ties with a Company that was supposed to be deregulated and subject to normal competition behaviour but somehow still believes and acts like a monopoly!

After having to deal with their incompetence and high and mighty attitude for the second time in two years we will be doing the same..We called from Ohio on the way home to reactivate the telephone..the satellite and the internet we get home to find nothing working..several calls were required to start the systems up...it took 3 days to get the landline working, they sent a repair guy out..he picked up his phone and called someone and blasted them.."JUST TURN IT ON" and viola there it was working..not onlly that, when the wife opened the invoices from bell they had been charging us for the internet even though the phone was disconnected..I even tried to get online with sympatico when we were away and it showed as offline and unavailable...We will have to investigate other providers for our needs.. I already have star choice reciever that I havent used in 5 years.. dont know if it will work on not.....

I got my Star Choice dish by courier last week and also bought the remote sat finder which comes with an ear piece so the rest of the campground will not hear you. A friend gave me a tripod and now all I need to do is to try it when we go camping. Can't wait to try it. Star Choice were very good to work with.

we have taken our star choice to arizona, no problems what so ever. Even had to call them, they are pleasant to deal with, and"flicked a switch" and we were watching..this year we didn't take it(park had free cable)put star choice on holiday service, gave them my dates(no charge for doing this)and it was on when we arrived home after Easter..putting our phones on holiday service with Bell costs $50.00 per number-and we have 2 #'s, cause we are dial up and have no high speed-Bell is keeping us in the 19th century!and I have complained to them-to no avail, they say we are getting high speed-and I've been asking for 9 years!!Good company-I think Not! Stick with Star choice, good service, even tho you many have to wait on the phone for the help..its worth it..

I too have taken my first step away from The Mighty Bell. We packed in the "un-limited" long distance call package...$30+ a month. The most we ever used was 300 minutes, which equates to some .10 per minute. A PC card is 4.3c per min. We just added the prepaid long distance number on speed dial...and we're off to big savings...

Brad:

A pre-paid card with the prefix number on speed dial, my goodness, that's a good one!
I'm slowly weaning myself from Bell's grip. I got some added incentive the other day when having some prob's with Sympatico. After much on-line converstaion with some guy in Calcutta, I gave up in frustration and got some help from the 14 yr old who lives down the street.

Now I'm no genious on computers..but not being able to understand someone, just compounds the problem. The pre-dial numbers on speed dial work just great.
This should come in handy when our son gets to South Korea next week.

I just received a reply from S/C regarding using the sytem in the USA while snowbirding... and I copied it here to answer any doubters

From Star Choice:: In answer to the direct question.. "Can I take my system to the USA and use it while travelling throughout the US during the winter months?"( Snowbirds/Winter Texans)".....Their reply..We have a program called the Home Away From Home (HAFH), and it looks like it would be perfect to fulfill your television needs. It allows you
to have the same great service at two locations. There is a $49.99 set
up fee, but after that no extra monthly charges will be applied to your bill.

You can get this set up once you have reconnected your account. The home
away from home program does allow you to take your system to the US with
you while traveling.
