Two questions. First can I get ultra low sulfur fuel through out Canada? Second I am planning to go across Canada West to East. First leg will be from Vancouver BC to Calgary. Will I find full sevice RV parks along the way?
Thanks for any advice.

Pine Creek Campground in Calgary is very nice with 50 amps, full hookups, etc.
We went though Alberta, BC, and Yukon on the way to Alaska last summer and managed to find reasonably decent CGs. As a general rule of thumb, we found mostly 30 amp power (in many places it was more like 20 amp power) and older parks. It really didn't matter since we were just passing through.
Western Canada has some outstanding parks so don't overlook those when planning your trip.
Do you really need the ultra-low sulfur? You don't specify what coach you are driving. It would help to update your profile with some details.
Last summer we found low sulfur (or was it the ultra-low?) everywhere we fueled up in the mentioned provinces. I suspect you won't have any trouble finding the correct fuel. You might check in at the Canada forum over on rv.net for more details.
Welcome to the forum

A Canadian in Calgary reporting in...
Sorry to report that the MOST wonderful Pine CReek Campground here in Calgary is closing very soon now to make way for a housing development...
However, John is correct when he says there are many nice campgrounds throughout western Canada. Be sure to make many stops and take many days to go from Vancouver to Calgary especially. There are several different scenic routes you can take. All involve hairpin curves, and steep hills. Once you get to Calgary, the terrain is flat as a pancake heading east to Ontario.
I am too new to RVing to even know there is a low-sulfur vs ultra-low sulfur diesel... this is our first rig, purchased 2 months ago, but I am happy to report that we have logged over 6000km this summer, mostly from Calgary thru to Vancouver and Vancouver Island, not bad for people who work full time!!... but I could check some places for you if you tell me what to look for.

The same thing happened to the best CG in Alaska, Anchorage RV Park. It's turning into a shopping center or a housing development - forgot which.

Worse than that... that is where we are storing our MH, it's VERY close to our house, and RV storage here is almost non-existant, and any decent places have wait lists of 3 years +... seems our land is too valuable to "waste" on storage... we are taking the MH to CA soon for the winter, not sure if we'll have ANY storage for it back in Calgary next spring...

As far as the ultra low sulphur fuel....that is all you will find at the OTR pumps in all provinces. It has been federally mandated for all OTR vehicles here for more than a year however some pump signage has not kept up with the change. BTW I have found that my truck runs better with it than the old fuel and economy has not changed appreciably...

I was told by the ford Mechanics that....the ULSD and the 6.0L were to be introduced at the same time...the 6.0 came out... the fuel didnt..that is why there have been a number of Turbo and egr problems with this engine...after my second Turbo and egr I started adding Cetane and havent had a problem since...now i use the fuel as it comes ULSD and occasionallly add the cetane...especially if I am travelling south...which will be happening real soon..

Hello Skip, Ian and others. I need a little clarification. I'm about to go diesel, but was wondering if additives have to be added to fuel ? only sometimes? I understand there are fuel line filters to watch, etc etc. Is it all as complicated as it sounds....????

No additives are needed. Diesel producers are operating under ASTM 975 that requires them to meet a lubricity std; which they do by adding additives themselves. Fuel filters are to be checked occassionally for indications of water but if one buys from high volume outlets it is a very rare problem. I have had diesel motorhomes since 1989 and never found water in fuel. It did happen once on my GMC truck when a supplier in NH let his tank go low and the pump sucked water from bottom. He paid for repairs. I don't think its complicated. Attendeance at an FMCA or Good Sam seminar on diesel engine opoeration is a good thing to do to educate yourself.

Canada went mandatory 100% ULSD last year unlike US which has a phase in program until 2010.
