My wife and I are planning to visit Vancouver for 2-3 days in early August as part of a West coast trip.
We are looking for recommendations on campgrounds and places to visit in the area. We will be travelling with a dog.

There are two campgrounds right in the Vancouver area. One is Burnaby Cariboo RV Park BCRV: Camping, tenting at BC RV Park for travel in Vancouver, B.C., Canada which I have stayed in, it is close quarters but a very nice park close to transit and Vancouver. It is very busy there in the summer and I would recommend reservation as soon as possible if you want to stay there in early August. The other, Capilano Camping and R.V.Park Vancouver BC Canada Full Service RV Park is in North Vancouver, closer to downtown Vancouver and walking distance to the mall in North Vancouver, I have stayed there as well and it is very nice, however, they no longer allow pets.
There is another one which I have never stayed at so I cannot say what it is like. It is a little out of the way so you would need your own transportation if you wanted to go to Vancouver attractions.
Anmore Camplands & RV Park Port Moody accommodations,accomodations,acommodations,bc,best rate,british columbia,business,canada, family,frequent traveler,get away,groups,holiday,international,meeting,overnigh t,relax,reservation,resort,rest,rooms,senio
Any others you are getting farther and farther away from Vancouver.
There is lots to see and do in Vancouver, vancouver bc attractions - Google Maps

I particularly enjoy Lynn Canyon Park and the Capilano Suspension Bridge, if you like outside things to do.
Hope that helps

Welcome to Vancouver
My vote for campground is Fort Camping in Fort Langley. Good location to do some touring around. Fort Camping in Fort Langley, BC, Brae Island Regional Park
You can easily walk to Fort Langley and to other attractions in the immediate area. They allow pets and campfires. Larger rigs are not a problem. 2 or 3 days is going to be rushing things, but certainly doable. The capalino suspension bridge I think is still the #1 tourist attraction here. The abbotsford air show is August 13, 14 & 15th abbotsfordairshow.com - Canada's National Airshow August 13-15 2010. A drive up to Whistler would be a good choice for a great view. Allow time for lunch in beautiful Whistler. I could go on and on here. Jimmy F has some great suggestions in his posting.
Good luck and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Try Peace Arch RV park. Close ferries, Vancouver and US border. Full service (max 30A) pool and playground for kids, reasonable rates and lots of room. Only drawback is no camp fires.
