Has anyone else come across this crap?

I recently moved from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic. During my misadventure across our continent, I had some issues with the electrical, and thusly my A/C on the trip across during this summers heat wave. I arrived in Halifax and drove by the local RV dealer, asked about warrantee issues and was told:

If you didn't buy it here, you pay us, and get your own refund from the manufacturer.

Anyone else run across this?

Hey Kid, Hope your cross country trip went OK.
I did read your report about Turning Stone.
I did read your report about warranty issues.

Seems all too many businesses have too much money to worry about the little guy anymore.

I can't imagine a Gm dealership in Halifax refusing to do warrenty work on a vehicle that was purchased in B.C. Maybe the manufacturer is the culprit here.. not wanting to pay out on warranty work. What ever the reasons...we the consumers have the final say, something the manufacturers and dealers should keep in mind.

As far as Turning Stone...a few words in the Campground review section, may provide a "heads up" to other travelers.

Anyway, glad you made it to your new home alright....keep us posted from the East coast....Brad

I too have heard of this issue. I know in one case that the owner contacted the manufacture and they ordered the guy to do the warranty work.

I have too agree with the suggestion wholeheartedly......When an RV dealer refuses to or makes no attempt to be of service to the brand name of his dealership as far as the travelling public in the same manufacturers product he should be ostrasized....the dealership should be outed and boycotted by all who would think about buying an rv there...Anytime this happens all the particulars should be noted and the dealer should be told what you are going to do...then when you have the opportunity..POST IT!!!bad publicity is a negative..no customers is Unemployed and bankrupt... IMHO!

In the incident I was referring to it was a couple we know personally. The dealer did lose that manufacturer and went out of business not too long afterwards. But it probably had nothing to do with that specific incident. Maybe he was treating everyone that way. I believe if you are a dealer representing a manufacturer you do the qualifing warranty work regardless of whether or not the product was sold by you.

When you look at HR, for example, they talk about 350 service centres

http://www.holidayrambler.com/service/index.html

Yet, my dealer, of course, is on that list in Canada (Sicard) and if you call in tomorrow to make an appointment for warranty work you will get in 2 months from now.

I suspect many of the others are no better. Last Nov 1 if you wanted an appointment at the Monaco/HR factory service centre in Wildwood the next booking date was March.

Likewise, Winnie claims a big service network and the best service

http://www.winnebagoind.com/resources/service/

Yet, my dealer is the largest HR dealer in Canada and also largest Winnie (their claim, not mine) and a 2 month wait is not appealing to any owner.

Friends bought a new Newmar and found their dealer couldn't fix various problems and they had to make an appointment at the factory - three months out being the earliest available.

If car dealers operated like this they'd be out of biz so quick it would make their heads spin.

How do they get away with this - "we" let them. That simple.

UPDATE:

Called Fleetwood Canada this morning, and have been basically told that I am correct believing that this policy is crap.

They will be calling the dealer and advising him of his requirements, then to slap himself across the face, they are to call me at home to book my appointment.

Waiting for my phone call.

I must admit, having spent soooo much time on the phone with 1-800 customer service reps, in the last few days, I am definitely saltier with the male reps, but find the females get a lot more done, so its easier to be nice. For full details, come to Halifax, bring beer.

Hey Kid...Good to hear your gettin someplace now. My dad always said the "squeeky wheel gets the grease" Reminds me of the time I took on General Motors of Canada, but thats another un-RV related story.

NUDDER UPDATE:

The dealership in questions has called me back, and updated me on thier new policy with regards to warranty issues.

Apparently they are new to the Fleetwood Family and were unaware of Fleetwoods customer service policies (I can only imagine who they have been dealing with before).

They only request that I bring down my bill of sale so that they can input the details into thier computer.

Squeeky wheel does get the grease, but sometimes the nail that sticks out gets hammered again. I tend to fall into both categories on occasion.

So, this does prove that you don't need to accept what you get told, and One nutbar can change the world.
