Weather crossing the Rockies

We are expecting to cross through the Rockies from Alberta to BC in Oct/Nov. Anyone have recommendations on a rough date that we should shoot for? We have no idea when the snow starts flying there and would like to pass through before it begins.

Thanks

You can expect to encounter snow anytime late Oct thru Nov. May need to try and pick your travel day accordingly. Once on the West Side you should be OK for the most part.

Crossing Rockies

Keep an eye on enroute weather. You can google up Revelstoke weather conditions and any other city, town or burg enroute. Field weather, Golden weather. Canmore weather.

I have found if there has been a snow event, it takes 3 days of decent weather to make the roads clear and dry, providing no more snow has fallen.
If you have an outside thermometer, keep an eye on it for temps just above freezing, roads ice up

Watch out for bridges and overpasses, they freeze up sooner.

There are 'BC highways cameras" Look them up.

Call the Shell Station in Revelstoke. They are at the bottom of the hill on the right going East. The gate to shut off the Hiway is just up the hill from them.

Make sure you have chains or are a 4x4.
Have lots of windshield washer fluid if things are melting.

Lots more but that is enuf for now.

I've done it in all seasons and all types of weather both ways.

I have encountered snow in the Rockies the first week of September, 85°F in Kamloops and 4 inches of snow in Banff

We wintered in BC for a few years. We left Alberta after Thanksgiving as we always went across the Cocquihalla. Never had any issues at the time of the year, but always checked the weather on the morning we were ready to leave Kamloops, just in case. Things can change rapidly up there

When we travel through the USA we constantly keep up with the weather as to
where we are headed. The internet is a great up to date supplier of info.

Last year I was staying in Sturgis, SD, and thought of going to Yellowstone.
Checked the weather and found it had a 10inch dump of snow.
This was in August.

Suggest you keep an eye open DAILY on the weather.

Mentor is the closest with his Advice!
But not Quite right It could Snow in July or in August, you just never know!
You must check when you leave and then again just before you enter the Passes, Since it can change in a heartbeat and it will!

We all wish you safe travels and do your due diligence and all will be fine!

Best Regards,

Ed

While in Canada you will be subject to random snow fall, watch out for polar bears and maple syrup slicks.
