Which way to travel from Southern Ontario to Winnipeg. Do I take the Trans-Canada Northern route 11 or should I go through the States? I did hear that travelling through the Northern US would be flatter than through the Trans-Canada. I am not worried about the length of time just the steepness of the roads. Any thoughts on this question would be appreciated.

Hey Blake....I would say the northern Ontario route would be the steepest. North from the "soo" to Wawa and just beyond is like the Rockies. Through USA would also be cheaper for fuel. Fuel at Wawa is probably the most expensive I have ever seen, and thats not even considering prices as they are now!!! That big GOOSE at WAwa is exactly what you get.

The road on the north side offers, IMO, better vistas.
Don,t woory too much about the hills. Looking at your avatar, I'm sure you won't have any proble,
And pls Brad, don't remind me anything about Wawa.
A few years ago, I had my worst close call in Wawa when a non-male driver with a young kid (unbelted) on the front seat turned left in a private driveway right in front of me.
I missed them by half an inch what could have been a real disaster.
I had to stop a few hundred feet further to put things back where they belong in the motorHome and pick-up the broken plates and glasses.
The your lady came to me saying "I'm sorry, I did not see you"

We have driven both several times....The views from the Cdn route are truly Superior (Ha!) however from a towing standpoint the US (Hwy 2 IIRC) is a lot flatter, thus more relaxing and economical although the US fuel prices are not much better (or worse) than ours. The State Park under the Mackinac bridge is a great stop over but there are a lot of private parks in that area as well. If you use the S rte I can recommend trying the home made "Pasties" that are the specialty of the eastern UP of Mi. Last trip that way (2007) we took the S Rte across and came home via the Northern rte so my wife could visit her childhood hometown Port Arthur.(Thunder Bay now)

Thank you very much for all that replied. I will talk it over with my wife and make the decision after some long discussions I think. Again it would be my first long trip in the new MH so I think I may take the more cautious route until I become more comfortable at the wheel. Thanks again! Blake.
