I'm planning a mid October three to four day side trip to the Grand Canyon Village and the Petrified Forest from River Breeze RV Resort, my base camp, in Ehrenberg. I won't be towing the RV. Can someone please recommend a scenic route and lodging/ meals in or near the Grand Canyon and the Petrified Forest?

Thanks,

Jack

When you're at the Petrified Forest, be sure to enter the southern entrance, and exit at the north end (the route is better that way). Also, a great place to stay nearby is the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, AZ. It's about 6 miles from the park.

The Wigwam Motel is an old Route 66 motel, lots of charm (but a little cramped), and not too expensive. It's a great experience to stay there, but make reservations early. They can fill up.

You might also consider seeing Metor Crator. It's about 15 miles west of Winslow. I just saw it for the 1st time last weekend. It's pretty neat.
