Planning a trip this summer to Fortuna California. I have a friend that lives there and my wife and I have decided its time for trip to see them.
For you folks that have make that drive from I5 to the 101 what road did you take. The two that I see are the 20 and 299. We will be pulling a 34' TT for the trip. Any suggestions to the best route would be greatly appreciated..

Thank you
Rick and Sandi

I have driven both in a car only. If I had to choose one over the other when towing, Route 20 would be my choice. Hwy 299 is a prettier drive but not as straight as Hwy 20.

I traveled eastbound on 299 from the coast to
I-5 this past October in our 32 foot class A motorhome, pulling our toad. It is scenic drive, but is rather twisty for about the last 10 miles or so before it intersects the interstate. Also there were quite a bit of logging truck traffic. All in all not a bad drive from my point of view. Hwy 20 is good also, been a few years since I was over that way. Enjoy your drive, either way you go.
