The drive from north of Ridgecrest to Reno on US 395 is one of my favorite drives. You go up the Owens Valley between the eastern wall of the Sierras on the west, and the White Mtns on the east past Bishop. Then you climb past Mammoth and get to facinating Mono Lake with its tufa towers and Lee Vining, where the youngest Mtn. range in the US is,(about 1600 years old). Then over to Bridgeport and the scenic drive down the Walker river to Topaz lake and over the Juniper studded hills to Minden/Gardnerville and on to Carson City. As I said, it's one of my favorite places.
