My family and I are planning a trip to your area in July/August. I know it will be real hot, but I am looking for ideas on must sees in the area. I have to make a stop in Ft Worth for a visit for a couple days, so any suggestions from there would be appreciated. I have a 4 and 11 yo.

What part of the area are you considering? The lower elevation deserts are hot. The mountain areas are much cooler, especially in Colorado.

Ken,
after TX we were thinking of hitting NM, and then Grand Canyon. From there we are up in the air. I have never been out there and I am strating a little re-search on what we want to see. We might make a pit-stop in Colorado on the way back, we will see.

Having lived many years in Texas and Albuquerque perhaps I can help. Where in NM are you planning on stopping. There's a lot of places along the way to visit such as Carlsbad Cavern, White Sands, Elephant Butte, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos. And of course each city has places that are must sees.
As for Fort Worth you should spend some time in the stockyards for sure.

Lenny and Chrissy: Hello!! We are headed back out that way this summer too. We have been before and are heading back.. About 35 miles north of Demming NM is a state park call City of the Rocks. A neat Campground. My kids (we camped there many times while at Ft Bliss) and my Grandkids think this is the greatest playground in the world. Not much to do but play in and on the rocks. Also the Gila Cliff Dwelings are a great day trip from the campground. The Rangers are super, lots of help.
Take care and keep it between the white lines and be safe.
Mac

If you are in Arizona, hit Slide Rock, just outside of Sedona. It is cool, wet and fun for the kids.

If you're going to Santa Fe and are art-oriented, you'll enjoy the Georgia O'Keefe Art Gallery. My wife loves O'Keefe and we have a poster from there.
Also, eat at the Celebrations Restaurant. They have New England Boiled Dinner which is one of my recipes from the cookbook. They tried it, liked it, and added it to the menu about three years ago.

Dean is right, Lake Pleasant is nice, but in July it Will be hot hot hot. Depending on where else you want to go around here on a nice place to stay. If this is it, maybe someplace with full hookups and a nice pool to relax in. Let us know
