For future reference, here is a copy of a post on the Northwood RV (Arctic Fox / Nash) forum for a group outing next month.

quote:
I made it to the Roosevelt Lake area this weekend and also spoke with Quinton (the ranger). I've posted pictures of the Grapevine Group campground at
http://groups.msn.com/OlanWade/grape...ampground.msnw . Thanks to Oilbrnr for the recommendation. Also thanks to Quinton, he gave me the combo to the gate and allowed me free access to check things out. The Grapevine Group area looks great and is nicely located to various recreation points (boating, hiking and Tonto Nat'l monument). There is also gas, propane and food in Punkin Center.
The rates for the group areas are as follows;
Heron and Pintail include 3 separate loops. We can reserve one of the small loops for $40 a night. The small loops have 6-8 spurs with picnic table and fire rings. The Heron and Pintail loops have a toilet house centrally located and have water. You may share the area with others from one of the smaller loops.
Goose, Grebe and Coot loops are large loops with central toilets, water and a pavillion. The large loops are $75 a night and can hold up to ~25 spurs with picnic tables and fire rings. The advantage to the large loop is that you have the entire loop.
A central shower/toilet bath house is available for the group area. A dump station is located on 188 at mile marker 249 across from the Cholla campground. For those of you interested in boating the boat ramp water depths can be found at the SRP site
http://www.srpwater.com/dwr/report.asp?dt=2/4/2005 . I also included a picture of the boat ramp at Grapevine.
WHEN: I'd like to recommend an early date of March 5,6,7 (Sat - Mon).
RSVP: Please RSVP this week by Friday 2/11/2005. I'll call Quinton this Monday to pencil in for that date. BUT I need to know the exact number so that I can reserve the loop. There's a $10 reservation fee that I can put up. You can contact me via email at
olanwade@msn.com to RSVP.
WHERE: Grapevine Group Campground, Roosevelt Lake, AZ
HOW TO GET THERE: I'd recommend if you're coming from the valley (Phx, Mesa, or Glendale) to take the 202 to Country Club (87) and go north (this is what's called the Beeline Hwy north of McDowell). Go approx 65 miles to 188. There is a rest area at the turn. Take 188 approx 40 miles (over the bridge and past 88 "The Apache Trail") to FR 84/Groupvine Group Site. The road is all paved and in excellent condition. From the north take 87 (from Strawberry) or 260 to Payson and south on 87 to 188. (FYI, I came out 188 south to Miami and then back into the valley in from the east on 60. Be fore warned, 188 is under construction south of the lake.)
