We are planning a trip out west. We are leaving in mid may and we are ending up in Moab in early June for a 10 day stay to do some trail riding with our jeep. We will be traveling with two young kids 3 and 5.
Does anyone have any input on a good campground in Moab or close the surrounding area? We want to be close to the trails. We will be 65 feet long. If possible I would like a pull through that we do not have to unhook the trailer but If we have to I can move the trailer with the jeep. I would really prefer to have full hook ups.
I would also take any input on places to see and go in the southwest. We will have three weeks so I want to make good of it.
Thank You Chris

This link shows a list of privately owned campgrounds in Moab
Moab Privately Owned Campgrounds

Have you done any previous off roading in Moab? I go there once a year for a week or so, and if you want, I can recommend a few Trails, depending on the modification condition of your Jeep.

I will be there end of August.

We were in Moab in 2001 and 2003 when my boys were much younger and stayed at the Slickrock Campground. Very nice campground with shade but I remember that the pull throughs were not that long even for the 35-footer I had at the time. You may want to give them a call and see if they have longer sites now.

In addition to Arches National Park, we did a float trip down the Colorado and then headed down to Mesa Verde. Bryce and Zion are also great places to go and within a day's drive of Moab.

We stayed at the portalrvresort.com park in September, 2010 and they have a premium pull-thru area that has long and wide concrete pads, nicely landscaped. I would highly recommend it.

We stayed atCanyonlands Campground earlier this year. The spaces where tight but had nice shade and full hookup. It is right in town so you are close to everything. We flat towed our Jeep so we didn't have a trailer but there is a separate parking area that you could park the trailer. Moab is a blast for Jeepers... wish I was going with you.

Howdy!

Last year we stayed at "Arch View Resort" nice clean friendly RV park just north of town. We have a MDT/5er/Idaho Tote that carries our Yamaha Rhino and are 64'. They have a few long pull throughts with FHU's that you will fit in. and if not they have an area you can unhook and park you tow trailer. We like it because we could ride right out of the RV park on our Rhino. Should not be a problem for you with a Jeep. We stayed two weeks and it was not enough. Know matter were you stay I would make reservations as it seems to always to be a busy area of the country with all the National and State parks nearby.

Ditto on Archview, however, the wifi signal was a bit weak. I would recommend the "east area" of the park for long pull thru capabilities, plus the view of Arch's off in the distance at sunrise is spectacular to say the least. Archview is very convenient to all of the parks in the area.

We also have stayed at Canyonlands and agree it's close quarters but a nice campground with everything close by.

Visited in 2006, however, cannot remember the campground. Had a 34 foot MH with ample room for towed Jeep- first RV park west of city, clean with all the necessary ameneites. Jeep is perfect for trails. Even stock Jeep on some of the motorcycle trails are OK, check with locals first. Lots of hikes and day trips available. If you are a photographer, bring all your lenses as there are lots of choices. Mountain bikes are a must. Our Jeep broke down, cell service to town was not possible. Let someone in the park know where you are going just in case.

Sorry it took me so long to respond back, I have been working on my home.
Hudsoner, my jeep is a Rubicon. I am running a a small lift and 33" tires. I hope by then I will be running 35" tires and a long arm kit. I would be interested in a list of trails to go on.
I appreciate all of the responses on campgrounds.
I would also be interested in other places in the southwest to go or places between Indiana the southwest. I will be traveling around for 2 weeks before I get to Moab. My kids love dinosaurs and places to play in the sand so any good sand dunes would be good and dinosaur places.
Thank You Chris

csp....Portal is a very nice upscale park but limited shade. Canyonlands is pretty good but small sites and plenty of shade. OKRV is decent and less expensive.
Trails.....There are TONS of trails around Moab within 1 -2 miles of town. The two I like are Hell's Revenge and Behind The Rocks. You would be good on either one with 33's. 35's would be better. Lot's of off-roaders around and I suggest you make friends and don't go on the trails alone. Tkae plenty of water and driink it.
Dino tracks......Potash Rd. is not really off-road.......Copper Ridge is mild off-road....and there are more.......just ask at the visitor center in town.
Dino bone chips......Blue Hills area off 191 North of town. May be hard to find without local help.
Off-road repairs........Moab 4 x 4 Outpost
Other stuff........There's a dry camp area called Sand Island near the split of hwy's 163 and 191 South of Bluff, UT. If you stay there for a couple of nights you can take the Jeep down Comb Wash going from 191 northward and end up on hwy 95 that will take you back to Blanding then take 191 back to CG. Along Comb Wash on the Western mountain faces are indian ruins that are very interesting. Take binoculars to find them.
If you need more info PM me.

One of the people meeting us in Moab stays at OK RV Park. It seemed to have good reviews. Does anyone have any input or information about the park? It is south of town. Is it to far south of town from the trail heads?
Thank You Chris

Chris,
It may b the equivalent of 15 blocks from downtown Moab. Depending on which trails you are going to it's no more distant than any other park in Moab.
Go to Google Earth and look at Moab. Go South on Hwy 191 until you see a really large building with a red roof......That's the Spanish Trail Arena.....OKRV is just East of the arena. Hope this helps you out.
PS make your res. pretty soon as Moab is very popular in the "not-so-hot" months.

There are so many trails around Moab. Here are a few. TrailDamage.com - All Trails

Scroll down to Utah. It's hot in Moab in June.
