Page Arizona, Monument Valley in February
Anyone been to these areas in February. We are Canadian, so cool temperatures dont bother us. Sub zero could be a problem for the coach. Snow is not desirable. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We left the coach in Phoenix last year and drove up to the Grand Canyon in the toad. We were hoping to see monument valley this year. |I know Flagstaff is known for snow storms, but if we could get a good week without snow we could take the toad to monument valley and maybe Page to see the slot canyons.
Thanks

Got to watch the weather. Monument Valley like Flag, can get some nasty snow storms.

Long drive from Paige to Mon Vally....and once you get there, not a large number of options for campgrounds....mostly smaller rigs or dry camping. Its been several years so things may have changed.....

If the weather is good I suggest taking the RV to Wahweap RV on Lake Powell (I assume it's open in Feb). From there you can take the toad via AZ98-US160-US163 to Monument Valley. It is about 130 miles.
There is a good full hookup RV park in Monument Valley at Gouldings if you want.

Thanks for the replies. When we went to the Grand Canyon last year in February, it was only a few degrees above freezing during the day. Having never seen the canyon before, it was worth it. We had a limited time to be there, and the weather was threatening to go well below freezing at night. Where we come from its minus 20 and below so plus temps are nice to us. We will have more time this year so hoping for a window of opportunity with above freezing nights that we could take the coach up and do some touring with the toad. After that we are back down the hill to warmer climates. We can only come down in the winter at this point, so if not doable, we will have to wait until a future date.

Keep your eye on the forecast before you go there. It could snow, but odds are you will have decent weather vs bad so I would go for it. As long as the weather is not to far below freezing for the lows your coach should be fine.

I stayed at Goulding's Lodge Campground in Monument Valley a year ago (November) and it got very cold at night. Down into the 20s. You can probably expect more of the same in February. At least they have full hook-ups.

We were just in the Chinle AZ area the week before Thanksgiving, not in our trailer. Lows in the teens. If that fits your definition of cool, then go for it.

I'm not sure what you're planning. Do you winter in Phoenix and are thinking about going to Monument Valley from there, like you did with the Grand Canyon? You said you're taking the toad, but also mentioned the coach having problems in sub-zero weather, so I'm confused.
Anyway, we were in Monument Valley in February 2009. Stayed in a full hookup site at Goulding's. Only a couple of patches of snow here and there, but you'd have to watch the weather when you're actually going.
We approached it from the north, with ten days in Moab and two days in Bluff.

If you enjoy boondocking, Valley of the Gods just north of Monument Valley near Mexican Hat, UT is the most spectacular spot we've ever camped:
Also in that video, there's dry camping in a free campground at Navajo National Monument west of Kayenta, AZ.
As for Lake Powell, I prefer dry camping at Lone Rock Beach over the tight spaces at Wahweap Marina. It's only a few miles between the two, and we were there for Thanksgiving:
It's $14/night for primitive dispersed camping at Lone Rock Beach (half that for seniors or the disabled), and there's a free dump station on site. The fresh water fill at the Lone Rock dump station is now shut off for the winter, but they let me fill for free just down the road at the Wahweap Marina RV campground.

Have been busy. Happy new year. Thanks for the replies. We were hoping to get a few days or a week where the temperatures stay above freezing so that we could take the coach up to Flagstaff or Page and tour around in the toad. We are travelling from Ontario to Arizona the first week of February. We are planning on spending some time around Kingman and check out some parts of route 66. We are going to spend a week or two in the area then head south. Thinking of renting some side x sides near Sedona or maybe closer to Phoenix as well. If the weather wont cooperate, we will just go where it will. We are pretty flexible. Cheers

If the tour boat are running when you get to Lake Powell the tour up to Rainbow Bridge is worth the trip.
I keep my Cruiser on Lake Powell... Truly a wonderful place.
