We drove thru to check it out over july 4th weekend last year. the entrance was impressive, the grounds inside less than expected and found it to be way overpriced for what it is. They wanted $100 per night. We aren't opposed to expensive parks, we just want more than they have to offer for the money. We decided to pass.

This isn't on the water, but is a terrific park: Golden Village Palms in Hemet:
Southern California Luxury RV Resort - Hemet Ca | Golden Village Palms RV Park in Hemet, CA

I haven't been there yet, but I have heard good things about the RV Park in Temecula at the Pechanga Indian Casino: https://www.pechanga.com/sections/rv.../rvresort.aspx

Golden Village in Hemet is very nice. A passport America site as well.

Pachanga is very nice. And the casino is great food. And not smokey smelling.

Malibu Beach RV is one of our favs. The ocean view is wonderful. Our kids live nearby so stay there a few times a year.

Lake Skinner is good. Especially if with kids as it has a great water park and lots of open space to play ball etc.

The two RV parks at Lake Elsinore are ok. Not great, not bad.

Try the Elks lodge in Vista. Only a mile or so to the beach, but very nice. They do let non members stay @ $22.00 a night with power/water/sewer. We have family in that area (we live in bullhead city, az) most are expensive in that area and not real nice. Very quite and is dog friendly without extra fee's !! Google it. Have fun

Thousand Trails

I am transitioning to fulltimer, and recently bought a Thousand Trail Platinum membership through a broker. I paid $1400 for the membership, and my annual fees are $545. That gets me up to 3 week stays at TT parks for $0 a night. That sure looks good on the bill!!! I can immediately move to another TT park, and come back to the previous park after a week out. I can stay in TT 365 days a year.
I am currently at Wilderness Lakes in Menifee. They have full hookups, fishing canals, numerous playgrounds, minature golf, 2 pools and spas, numerous showers and laundries, and regularly scheduled activities including a bus tour to the Rose parade on Jan. 1st. There are 5 more TT preserves within 100 miles of here (2 in San Diego area, 2 in Palm Springs area, 1 in Idyllwild). This park is near the Hemet valley, the Temecula wine area, 45 minutes from the ocean, 45 minutes from the Mt. San Jacinto mountain communities, 45 minutes from the Palm Springs desert area, 60 miles to Disneyland, 80 miles to L.A. or San Diego.

Buying a membership or yearly zone pass might be an idea for cheaper camping if you plan to do it for a while. Also look into Passport America. Lake Skinner, Pachanga, and Rancho Jurupa all honor P.A.

Vail Lakes Resort is full of contrast, if your looking for a resort you will be disappointed. However I find this place to be very enjoyable. It is a large size wise rv park lots of open space, great dog walking, wild life viewing, mountain biking, and lots of activiety in general. The setting is California coastal oak rolling hills with lots of natural vegation left, it borders forrest land. It can be very expensive, during October they seem to be in the Halloween mood and the site prices are raised, however they accept almost all discount programs so check on that. On the weekends there are lots of kids so it gets noisy, however during the week the place really clears out and is very quiet, outside of the summer months. This park is full of contrasts, I find it very hard to evaluate this park, it is not very well maintained some of the sites seem to be in poor condition electrical problems in some sites that don't seem to get resolved. All that being said I enjoy this place and will return. I would be interested to hear what others thought of this place.

I've been to Silent Valley near Idyllwild several times.....my inlaws have a membership there and they go there at least 2-3 times a year. Husband & I used to tag along and stay in their trailer with them, but now we just bought our own last weekend so, no more tagging along, lol!!!

We really enjoy Silent Valley. It's very well kept....lots of shaddy areas, lots of things to do, they have various designated areas for rv, tents, wilderness camping, showers, a general store, recreational room, ect. We love going there at least once a year, but we can go as often as we like w/our own rig

I know I'm a little late jumping in but...

We have been in So Cal for years in Pasadena and now in Palm Springs. These are some of the spots we go for quick trips:

Lake Skinner in Temecula is a good spot with a fishing lake and water park. Sites are in rows but full hook-ups and fire-pits. It is a Riverside County Park so it is relatively inexpensive.

Yucaipa Regional Park in Yucaipa off the 10 freeway. Nice full hook-up sites on wooded grounds. Water park on the lake in summer. near Oak Glen where they have apple orchards and farms to visit for a day trip. San Bernardino County Park.

Springs at Borrego in Borrego Springs, CA. A little further away, but you can get there through Julian. Beautiful park in the high desert. Nice 9 hole golf course, pool and mineral baths, massage. A little pricey but very nice.

Aqua Caliente Regional Park is a San Diego County Park in South San Diego County. Southwest edge of Anza Borrego Desert. Full and partial hook-up sites. Three large mineral pools including one indoors with a retractable roof. Only open October - May. Great hiking, climbing and some people bring desert toys for day trips and soak in the pool at night. Nice facilities. sdparks.org for on-line reservations.

East Shore RV park in San Dimas near the 57 and the 210. Small lake, nice , full hook-up sites with views of the lake. We'll be there this weekend...

Have Fun!

Just posted in this section of the forum on Anza Borrego: http://www.irv2.com/forums/f69/anza-...rt-196748.html

We have visited (but not camped) at every place listed so far. I now find it difficult to select one to go back to.

We prefer dry camping, or 'boondocking' as they like to call it, so the desert and mountains have always been our favorites.

For pay parks, Pechanga is very nice, Emerald Desert in Palm Springs, the San Dimas Park for sure, Crystal Cove is very nice.

It's very difficult to get a camp spot on short notice in so-Cal and we are very poor planners - very spontaneous! So we tend to not be able to get into any of the more popular destinations.

Good thread though, have read through with interest.
