This might be a tad late as we are in contract to buy a home in Merlin and close escrow on 5 May.

However.......Has anyone lived around there? There is the Grants Pass Airport which is 2+ miles south of us. Are the takeoffs/landings going to drive us koo-koo?

There are some UP railroad tracks about 1/2 mile from us but it seems they are in a ravine and there are hills to intercept and block any noise.

We will be about 6 miles + north of Grants Pass on a road off of Pleasant Valley Road.

Anything in the way of meth manufacturing labs in this area?

Any and all comments will be much appreciated.

Scooter,
Unfortunately the area you are living or moving to is all meth country. But then again its everywhere now in Oregon but Grants Pass, Medford area is the worst. We moved from Springfied to Blue River Oregon and even in the mountains there are the stupid idiots that seem to think that meth is cool. Nothing worse than a beautiful woman or destined to been something man ruined by this stupid drug. On the good side we are both in one of the best states for beauty. Too bad they are too stupid to stop and see that. Good living and enjoy.

Thanks for the comments, Ranger.

We have been here three weeks now and just found the time to get DSL and check this post.

Someone commented Medford is pronounced Methford. The telephone guy who hooked us up told me that some meth freaks in Grants Pass have broken into stores that stock the materials they need and disable the alarm system's monitoring service by knocking over the large box on the sidewalk containing the areas common telephone lines and cutting the cables.

Anyway we are in a quiet subdivision on 2.5 acres and our alarm system will be installed tomorrow. We will have the cellular back up option to alert the monitoring office should the bad boys cut our telephone line which is now mounted on the outside of the garage. The phone company declined to move the box inside the garage. I might have a metal shop fabricate a sturdy box to cover the connection later on and still keep the cellular back up.

So far, so good.

I have some hard views on drug addiction. It is not a disease. You get 1 or 2 chances to clean up after you get arrested. After that............... well, you really don't want to know if you are squeamish.

Hope you are enjoying the area despite the things you have heard about meth. We have lived in the Rogue Valley since 1978 with many changes, but we still find it a great place to live with a wealth of places to see. We enjoy the Indian Mary county campground just outside Merlin, though it can be noisy with fisherman and hunters using the road. It is a beautiful area. We are fortunate to be able to take our RV out year round. Look for the positives and you will find them!
