I am taking my family on vacation this summer. We will be RV camping in West Glacier NP and Yellowstone NP. Are there places around there we can ride our ATV's? We will be in our RV, it's a 41ft toy hauler 5th wheel pulled by a highway tractor. We also pull the Jeep behind the 5th wheel. Our plans are while at Yellowstone to camp out of the park at Bakers Hole. It is 3 miles north of West Yellowstone. It is a non serviced USNPS campground. We are looking for places to camp and quad around West Glacier also. Does anyone have any suggestions? We have problems in smaller camp grounds, if we drop the Jeep we are 65 ft long and 13 feet tall. Once we get the trailer spoted, I usually unhook from the truck and put the truck in a seperate parking area if needed. We prefer non serviced campsites. I always unhook the Jeep and use it to scout campsites befor we enter a park. It will be me, my wife, our 15 year old daughter and our 2 Shih tzu dogs and 2 quads. Any suggestions at all would be great.
Cheers
Bear

Another good spot to camp (USFS CG)in the W. Yellowstone area is about 5 miles north of Bakers Hole then about 4-5 miles to the left (west of the highway) on Hebgen Lake called Rainbow Point.

I'm late, but here's what I know:
Glacier's "Going To The Sun" road has, I believe, a 30' limit. I can't personally verify this info, so check the official Park Service website.
Yellowstone may have similar limits. There are winding roads, blind curves and steep grades (YNP I know, GNP I haven't visited yet but is likely similar). Make your CG reservations NOW if you want to stay in the Park. I seriously doubt they'll even let you unload your quads in either National Park. Although most of the mountains of western WY are either protected wilderness areas, national forests or state/national parks there are areas you can ride your 4-wheelers nearby. Do your research and stick to the designated trails.
There is an abundance of Forest Service land with open camping within an hour of Jackson,WY. I think that most of the USFS and NP campgrounds will be a "little tight" for a rig the size of yours. Heck, I live here, and I'm about ready to sell our 30' 5er because it's just too big for most of these areas around here. Now, if you're thinking private campgrounds (i.e. hookups) outside of the Park you'll probably have no trouble. The downside to staying outside of Yellowstone is that it's a long way from the gates to the main features. Figure on an hour's drive, minimum, more during the height of tourist season.
Above all have a fun and safe trip! Remember that all the things you're told about weather conditions, roads and wildlife here are true, this ain't no petting zoo! Happy trails!
Oops, sorry, I just realized you're from Alberta. I didn't mean to write like you were from New York City! You probably already know more about mtn driving and camping than I'll ever learn!
