Class B Neebies

We just purchased our first RV and are pretty excited about this RVing thing. We bought a Class B Road Trek and are looking forward to taking it on the road. This is our "land yacht" We are from the State of Washington and are planning our first big trip leaving the middle of May and going to ID, MT, WY, SD, ND, and then into Alberta and British Columbia. Any advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks.

Hi 2drifters: Welcome to iRV2. Sounds as if you're just entering into this RV'ing world. You're going to love it!! My wife and I retired in 05 out of Duluth, MN after taking vacation trips in a couple of different vans we had over the yrs. and now, after selling all, live and travel full time in a motor home. As my wife is from the Mitchell, SD area we now have SD as our home state and have traveled quite a bit in the areas you plan to visit (ie., Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Dakotas, Alberta & B.C.). There are so many great places to visit on your route it's difficult to make suggestions, but....consider something like the following that takes ya to some WONDERFUL places and limits having to spend time traveling through marginal country:

Head E. up to Sandpoint, ID (Lake Pend Oreille), then S. to Couer de' Alene, E. on I-90 to Missoula, MT., S. on 93/73 to the Sawtooth Mtns. Natl. Rec. area (Stanley Jct., ID), S. through Sun Valley, Carey then NE and E. over to Idaho Falls taking then 26 E. into Wyoming and then up to Jackson Hole, Yellowstone. Then (whew!) NE out of Yellowstone over Bear Tooth Mtn. to Red Lodge, MT on Rt. 212, and THEN cut S. back to Powell, WY and E. on Alt #14 to Burgess Jct. (atop Bighorn Mtns.) and on E. to Sheridan/Gillette on I-90. E. of Gillette, take 14 then 24 up to see Devils Tower before continuing E. on 24 into S.Dak. catching 85 S. to Spearfish. At Spearfish head S. on Alt. 14 to Lead through Spearfish Canyon and into Deadwood. Then head S. on 385 to Hill City, Custer (Crazy Horse Mtn.) and up to Keystone (Mt. Rushmore). At this point since there's not much remarkable E. of the Rapid City/Black Hills area, ya might want to find your way back N.W. up toward Great Falls, MT into Glacier Natl. Park and then N. on Canadian Rt. @2 toward, but NOT into Calgary Alberta. At High River (on #2 S. of Calgary) cut W. over to Longview and follow Rt. 541 up to Canmore then W. on Trans Canada 1 over to Banff, up 93 to Lake Louise, Athabasca Glacier, etc. Now, at this point, unless your hell bent for travel, and want to head W. over to Vancouver and ferry out to Victoria, ya just might want to head SW from the Banff Natl. Prk. area to Revelstoke and down to Kelowana and through the beautiful Okanagan area, crossing back into Washington at Osoyoos.

BOY!!! THAT would be one adventure!!! Don't know how much time you've got, but....only you know. As to "what to see" along that route....well I'll watch for your return post on this thread and will make suggestions if your interested. This post is getting TOO long. HAVE A WONDERFUL TRIP. Steve & Lynette

Keep track of all of the "stuff" you use on your trip, so on the next trip you can leave unused items at home. People tend to cram their RVs full of everything they can think of, which makes life rather cluttered.
