That is a very ez route, mostly along the Dolores river, then over Lizard Head pass. It is very scenic. However as already suggested, 550 from Durango is much more scenic, IMO and also more challenging. The drop down into Silverton is a grand view and ez to spend a few hours strolling around town. The vista point parking just north of Red Mountain pass provides good views of the area mines and informative displays. The last few miles into Ouray is an eye opener but the pull-off just above town is another great view. Parking for a big rig is not as ez as in Silverton, but lunch in town is a good experience.
