I am a slightly better than novice flat-lander from OHIO, traveling through North Dakota heading towards western Montana via Interstate 94 to I-90. (Our first trip west of the Mississippi (of 1,000’s + miles).

Our coach… 32ft. Winnebago Brave MH, plus a Blazer SUV toad.

I’d like to take in Glacier Nation Park and am looking for advice before we get to the area on Friday 14th, more than likely Saturday the15th. We’ll be coming from the east and heading on to the Pacific coast states.

Our questions and concerns:
1) Are both routes 98 and 2 through and around Glacier fully RV/TOAD’able?
OR
2) Should we set up a base camp and take a day trip (or two) into the park with the toad?
3) Drive on 2 and 98 with MH and TOAD and look for RV parks at the end of the day sights seeing?

I hope I don’t sound too naïve.

I’m sure we could spend several days touring the park, but is a day unrealistic? And though we are retired, we are also heading to Washington State, Oregon (to see our son and family), N. California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska… while heading back to the Buckeye state.

I will also read past posts while waiting for any comments and suggestions.

Regards,
Jim and Carol

Do you mean Route 89 instead of 98?

We took Rt. 89 down from Canada all the way to Great Falls in a 35 footer with a toad with no problems. Don't know about Rt. 2 around Glacier. I did take Rt. 2 from Spokane to West Glacier in a Renault Alliance (remember that model car?) back in 1985 and remember a ton of crosses along the side of the road so be CAREFUL!

In 2006, we camped at the St. Mary/East Glacier KOA and used the toad to enter the park. Going to the Sun Road is a must but NOT in an RV. There is a shuttle that would allow both of you to enjoy the scenery.

Garden Wall is breathtaking. Also a hike from Logan Pass to Hidden Lake is a great way to burn off some calories.

Several years ago we went from Great Falls to West Glacier using 89 and 2. I was towing a 28' TT. I don't remember any problems. Back in the 70's I drove semi pulling a 42' trailer between Central Wa. and Kalispel, Mt. No problem with that.

Both 89 and 2 are good roads and doable. I would take two days to do GNP with you toad. Then take 2 all the way to Wa. state. Enjoy.
