Hi,

Ok, well, we're not a new camp family, but we're new to the camper lifestyle. We're selling our pop-top trailer after "borrowing" an 16' slide in from my in-laws.

It's (the slide-in) a '70 model year (YIKES!) on an '85 F250 2wd. Luckily the former owner of the truck was a camper too, so it's got a Banks kit on the 6.9L oil-burner and new 12-ply BFGs.

We're setting it up today for the first time, just to get a good cleaning and systems check. Gotta love that amber plastic window panels with the spiral etch pattern. Groovy!

Just saying howdy, and asking for your favorite kid-friendly spots.

Actually, the only drawback I see is that it's a tight fit on the bed, and would be a real pain to unhook at the camp site, unless we were to stay for a week or more. I'm wondering if the old girl has enough oomph in her to flat-tow a dune bugy or similar small runabout, or are we forced to settle for pedal power?

Thanks,

Searoy, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. You will find we are a group of fun loving RVers that like to help out where we can. Good luck on the camper. One thing you might want to do is to verify that the tires are not out of date as we call it. RVs don't get as much use a an everyday truck or car and so the tires deteriorate in the rubber before the tread is used up. There is a rectangle box that will have three or four numbers in it. If it only has three (pre 2000) the tires are needing to be replaced. Four numbers will read the week of a particular year. Eample: 1603 - 16th week of 2003 was the manufacture date. Tires will only hold up about 6 years IF taken care of. Keep the sun off them when stored and off the wet ground. Good luck and enjoy!

Welcome to iRV2. I can't answer your questions but when something is new to you, It's always fun to play with. I'll bet you could tow something light and make it work. Good luck in your search for "that" camping spot. I'm sure some of our members up that way will be able to give you some good ideas.

Welcome aboard Searoy. I got a good chuckle from the comment on the amber spiral glass. Brought back the days of yore when my dad had a similar slide in. Real "groovey". LOL I remember riding in the sleeping berth over the cab all the way to Florida from PA.

Searoy, let me also welcome you to irv2. There is always friendly conversation and help when you need it. We Oreganoes are fortunate to have an abundance of wonderful state campgrounds. Here is a link to the Oregon Parks site. Don't forget to get your irv2 stickers for your rig. Keep us posted on your adventures. Happy Trails!!
