My Wife and I will be traveling from Idaho to the Oregon Coast a couple of days before Memorial Day and will be looking for an overnight stay somewhere around The Dalles or Hood River. Anyone have any suggestions. I understand from searching the site that a train track also follows the freeway and river and many people have mentioned trains noise at most of the stops. We still need to stop for an overnight regardless of the trains.
Thanks,
Ron

Hello Ron. My wife and I have stayed at Bridge RV Park and Campground in White Salmon, WA a couple of times. It is located across the bridge from Hood River. We have stayed there because it is a nice little Park and we felt more secure there than stoping along I-84 at one of the state parks.
I don't remember having the trains bother us during the night but I'm a hard sleeper.
Where on the Oregon Coast are you headed? I live on the coast so if I can be of assistance don't hesitate to ask.
Paul

Paul,
Thanks for the response and we will look at the Bridge RV park, my Wife doesn't feel comfortable parking overnight along freeways either. We plan on parking our RV at South Beach campground near Newport and driving and riding our bicycles along the coast for 4 days. I posted a request for info about the South Beach campground in the "Need Campground Information" of the forum. I also went on the Oregon Coast Visitor Website and requested a free magazine on things to do (nice website).
I see you have a Hawkins HMC for sale, I was doing a lot of research on the Hawkins prior to purchasing our 1995 Vectra. It looks like a nice coach. We might contact you for more info on the Oregon coast.
Thanks,
Ron

Glad I could help. We live about 60 miles north of Newport near Pacific City in South Tillamook County. There are serveral places to stay along this stretch of the coast, both private and county parks.
We love our Hawkins but needed a coach with more room (slideouts). We've owned the Hawkins for 8 years and have enjoyed every minute of it.
Paul

We stayed at a county park (or state park - don't remember which) that was at The Dalles on the opposite side of the river. Very nice park with trees, grass and nice camp sites. Most of the sites had water and electric and if I recall correctly there was a dump station in the park.
Some of the sites were close to the river providing a nice view.
I'm sorry but I don't remember the name of the park.
Ed

You have several public campground options. I would vote for Memaloose myself. You can book it on ReserveAmerica.com
On the WA side you have:
Maryhill State Park
50 US Highway 97
Goldendale, WA 98620
Tel: (509) 773-5007
On the OR Side you have:
Memaloose State Park
The Dalles, OR 97058
Tel: (541) 478-3008

Viento State Park
Hood River, OR 97031

I don't know how far you want to get off the freeway but if you take OR35 south about 12 miles. There is a county park (Tolebridge). It is a county park but we think it's a great park. Very quiet and a beautiful drive through the Hood River Valley.
